Martin Keown lavished praise on Alexis Sanchez after the forward helped to inspire Arsenal to a 2-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners headed into the game looking to make it back to back victories in the Premier League after their 2-0 win over West Brom last week.

Arsenal took the lead in the 16th minute at The Emirates when Nacho Monreal fired home after a period of sustained pressure.

Sanchez then inspired the Gunners to net their second when his brilliant back-heel set up Alex Iwobi in the 56th minute for Arsenal’s second.

And former Arsenal defender Keown was very impressed by what he saw from Sanchez at The Emirates on Sunday lunchtime.

Speaking during BT Sport’s coverage of the game on Sunday afternoon, Keown said: “We talked about Sanchez being involved in everything and he showed magic there.

“It was a beautiful back-heel. Wenger knows the quality Sanchez has, that’s why he worked so hard to try and get him to sign a new deal, which of course he won’t do.

“It’s unbelievable the way he’s done that, how has he seen that ball? And a great finish in the end from Iwobi.”

The victory lifted Arsenal up into fifth place in the Premier League table and left them level on points with Chelsea after seven games of the new campaign.

The Gunners return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday 14 October.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
