Martin Keown: Arsene Wenger will remain as Arsenal manager if this happens

Arsene Wenger will keep his Arsenal job if the Gunners win the FA Cup and finish in the Premier League’s top four, according to Martin Keown.

The Gunners boss has come under pressure in recent weeks after a disappointing run of results in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Arsenal lost successive Premier League games to London rivals Watford and current leaders Chelsea to leave the north London side 10 points adrift of Antonio Conte’s side.

Wenger’s side lost 5-1 to Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at the Allianz Arena earlier this month.

The north London side have never won Europe’s premier club competition, while Arsenal haven’t lifted the Premier League trophy since their unbeaten season in 2003-04.

Speaking to Daily Mail about Wenger’s future at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the expiration of his contract in the summer, Keown said:

“The board and Arsene Wenger now need to decide whether he is the right man to go on. It’s as simple as that. Is it right for the club? Is it right for the owners?

“I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that if they qualify for the Champions League and do alright in the FA Cup, it’ll be status quo for next season. Why wouldn’t it be?

“The only problem is that he hasn’t been able to put the flag on the summit recently – winning the Premier League.”
