REDBULL IN A SAUDI MASTERCLASS

In what will worry the rest of the F1 grid. Redbull produced another powerful display, winning the Saudi Arabian GP with another 1-2 win.

In a Race that will not go down as a classic, Redbull showed that they are in a league of their own. With mechanical issues in qualifying forcing Verstappen to start in 15th, you could be forgiven thinking that another team stepping up against Redbull.

Aston Martin

The fast starting Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso tried their best to spoil the Redbull party, however the challenge was short lived, due to the power of the Redbull package and a 5 second penalty for not positioning his car correctly on the grid.

After the race was completed it was decided that the rear jackman had touched the car prior to the end of the five second penalty, thus handing the Spaniard a 10 second penalty and off the podium.

The other side of the Aston Martin garage did not have a great race, with Stroll retiring due to a mechanical issue on lap 18, brining out the one and only safety car. Bizarrely the Safety Car was deployed even with the Aston Martin parked off the track. The FIA confirmed that the GPS showed the car as stopped on the track, meaning that they deployed the SC.

Ferrari Woes

Both Ferrari and Mercedes struggled to keep the pace with the Redbull cars, with Ferrari more disappointed with how the race turned out. Carlos Sainz had a largely anonymous evening, crossing the line in sixth one place ahead of his teammate Leclerc. It what will be more of a worry for Ferrari will be how they finished behind the Mercedes duo, and seemed to lack any pace to challenge Russell and Hamilton.

Mercedes Improving?

Surprisingly, Mercedes are sitting in second in the Constructors championship, in a slightly better showing than in Bahrain, Mercedes pulled out a solid fourth and fifth for Russell and Hamilton Respectively. More importantly, they were ahead of the Ferrari duo, how just couldn’t fire up the hard tyre.

George Russell will be the happier of the two, not only for the fact that he finished ahead of his teammate but due to the fact that he was able to keep the pace with the cars in front.

The British driver was rewarded for his solid race, jumping up to third place and a podium, after Fernando Alonso’s post race penalty.

Fernando will have to wait a bit longer for his 100th podium after receiving a 10 second penalty post race

McLaren’s season cant get much worse

After one of the worst starts of the season for the Papaya squad, it didn’t take long for the bad luck to continue, with both cars into the pits for a nose change within the first couple of laps, relegating them to the rear of the grid. Piastri and Norris would finally cross the line in 15th and 17th respectively.

Honourable mentions

Further down the field, Alpine will be happier this weekend after securing eighth or ninth for Ocon and Gasly. It might not exactly where the French team would like to be, however have the last penalty strewn race last time out, a quiet solid race is exactly what is required.

Logan Sargent needs a mention for a pretty sold race, proving that he deserves his F1 opportunity, until the last few laps, when his tyres fell away, he was in a great battle with those around him.

Final word on the Redbull Masterclass

The final word has to be given to Redbull. Two races and maximum points, at one point they were 1 second per lap ahead of the Aston Martin and 2 plus seconds ahead of the remainder of the grid.

Can anyone catch the Bull?
