MI vs PBKS: Arjun Tendulkar Is Under Pressure To Live Up To His Father’s Legacy, Says Shane Watson

Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Shane Watson recently discussed the pressure of expectations upon Mumbai Indians (MI) bowler Arjun Tendulkar, as he will always be compared to his father Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin is one of the greatest names in cricket history. His records and feats need no introduction. His shadow will loom large over his son Arjun’s career.

Such pressure of expectations was faced by only a few cricketers before. The likes of Sanjay Manjrekar and Rohan Gavaskar, who had legendary fathers in the sport, tried to create their own legacy in cricket.

Arjun Tendulkar recently made his MI debut after two years of warming the bench, where he bowled a couple of decent overs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was much more fruitful. There, he defended 20 runs in the final over and took his first IPL wicket in Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Shane Watson recently commented on how Sachin Tendulkar’s legacy must put immense pressure on young Arjun, saying –

“Like in India obviously Sachin is a demigod really. The pressure that has been on Arjun Tendulkar to try and follow in his dad’s footsteps even though in different ways – as a left-arm fast bowler – is huge credit to him just to be able to take it on knowing the pressure that is going to be on him.”

Like Manjrekar and Gavaskar before, Arjun Tendulkar will look to one day represent the India National Cricket Team. But he is currently a long way away from reaching there.

Bowling the final over against SRH would have been a great experience for Arjun Tendulkar despite any result, says Brett Lee

Legendary Australian pacer Brett Lee has claimed that bowling the final over against SRH would have been a great experience for Arjun Tendulkar even if he had been unsuccessful in defending the target for MI.

While defending 20 runs against the Hyderabad-based franchise in the final over, the 23-year-old only gave away 5, taking Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s wicket in the process. Many praised Tendulkar for nailing yorkers throughout the over, disabling batters to make any runs.

While talking to Jio Cinema about that over, Brett Lee said –

“He handled the pressure beautifully. To give away just 4-5 runs in that last over, getting his first wicket in IPL. Congratulations to him, but I had said prior to that happening, no matter what happened at the end, that experience of him bowling in the death would just take his game from strength to strength.”

Arjun Tendulkar will now look to feature for Mumbai Indians on a more regular basis as they take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next match on April 22.
