Old records were shattered while several new ones were made as Rinku Singh-inspired Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a miraculous win against reigning IPL champions Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Thanks to Rinku Singh’s unbelievable batting in the final over of the match where he hit five sixes in a row, the two-time IPL champions chased down 205 runs. The win was KKR’s second of the ongoing season while Gujarat Titans suffered their first defeat of the season after beginning their title defense with two wins.

The match looked as good as over for KKR when a Rashid Khan hat-trick in the 17th over reduced them to 155 for 7. In the final over, KKR needed 29 runs to win, and with Umesh Yadav on strike, the match was looking all but done for them. Yash Dayal began the over on a good note, conceding a single.

And what followed thereafter was nothing less than extraordinary. Dayal just needed to bowl one dot delivery to win the clash but Rinku Singh was just too good for him. The Southpaw dispatched the 5 balls of the over for 5 sixes to pull off one of the greatest wins in the history of T20 cricket. He remained unbeaten on 48 runs off just 21 balls.

Rinku Singh shatters records

Thanks to his stunning knock, Rinku Singh has added several feathers to his cap. He has now helped Kolkata Knight Riders break the record of scoring the most runs in the final over of a match during a successful run chase in IPL. The record was previously held by now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant who had scored 23 runs against Punjab Kings in 2016.

Rinku Singh also broke MS Dhoni’s record of scoring the most number of runs in the 20th over during a run chase. Dhoni held the record for scoring 24 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore before Rinku broke the record by smashing 30 runs.
