Belgium captain Eden Hazard has announced his retirement from international football after the Red Devils suffered a group-stage exit at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Hazard has endured an indifferent form since moving to Real Madrid from Chelsea and after an underwhelming display at the tournament in the Middle East, the former Lille playmaker has officially called it quit with Belgium.

Hazard isn’t the only one walking from national team affairs; Roberto Martinez has also moved on from Belgium and will no longer be the head coach of the team but no words yet from his assistant Thierry Henry on where he stands in that regard.

Belgium lost to Morocco and labored to a draw against Croatia in a game they could have won had Romelu Lukaku converted his chances; the narrow win over Canada was not enough to see them through as Morocco and Croatia advanced from the group.

Elsewhere, Germany has decided to stick to Hansi Flick despite their embarrassing showing at the World Cup. The former Bayern Munich man has been trusted to return the German Machines to its glory days and his contract will be extended.

Germany suffered a shock defeat against Japan, fought out a 1-1 draw against Spain, and then came from behind to beat Costa Rica; Japan’s win over Spain meant Germany’s win became meaningless and they exited the tournament just as the did when they were defending champions four years ago.
