Icelandic town evacuated over risk of possible volcanic eruption

Residents of the fishing town of Grindavik in southwestern Iceland have been evacuated due to the risk of a Volcanic Eruption. The civil defense authorities declared a state of emergency after seismic activity moved towards the town and monitoring showed a corridor of magma extending under the community. While the exact site of the eruption is unknown, there is a significant likelihood of it happening in the coming days. The aviation alert has been raised to orange due to the increased risk. Volcanic eruptions can pose a serious hazard to aviation, as seen in the 2010 eruption in Iceland.
