Martin Odegaard sends reassuring message to Arsenal fans after 3-1 Man City loss

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has reassured fans that there’s still a long way to go in the Premier League title race after the Gunners’ 3-1 loss to Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 24-year-old playmaker sent a defiant message to supporters that there’s every chance that Arsenal can make a comeback in the league having failed to win in their last three fixtures, with Mikel Arteta’s side dropping to second for the first time this season.

The result on Wednesday night was as deflating as they come for Arsenal, with the hosts arguably the better side for most of the match before two Takehiro Tomiyasu errors allowed City two easy goals with the sort of finishing the Gunners have been lacking all season.

Yet Odegaard chose to be positive with what’s to come, with the captain saying: “We know there’s a long way to go, we’ve said it after every game we’ve won. We have to stay calm, keep working hard and take it game by game. It’s the same now when you lose, we need to just come back on Saturday and get a win again, that’s all that matters.”

Indeed, with Arsenal having a game in hand over City, the title is still very much in the Gunners’ hands. However, with no win in the last three Premier League matches, it suddenly feels hard to see just how Arteta’s side will be able to match City in the months to come.

February has always historically been a bad month for Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger losing both Premier League titles and even a quadruple bid at this stage of the season. And for Arteta, the 40-year-old coach has to shown that his team is not like that of his great predecessor.

With Aston Villa coming up quickly on Saturday, a win at Villa Park could be massive in getting Arsenal’s season back on track, though the challenge of facing Unai Emery away from home will feel like a daunting one for most supporters given the extreme narratives on show.
