Arvind Kejriwal granted bail in Majithia defamation case

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and another Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh were granted bail by the Amritsar High Court on Friday in connection with Bikram Majithia defamation case. The two have been granted bail on bond of Rs 40,000, said lawyer HS Phoolka,The next date of hearing has been fixed to October 15.

Punjab’s Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia had filed the case in the May against Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh and Ashish Khaitan for tarnishing his reputation.

The AAP leaders appeared before the Court of Civil Judge Gurpartap Singh at 11am on Friday.

Majithia in May had alleged that Kejriwal, Singh and Khaitan had tried to malign his family name by levelling false, baseless and malicious allegations.

Majithia said Kejriwal as well as other leaders have ‘made it a habit’ to target their political opponents by resorting to statements ‘filled with lies with the sole motive of hoodwinking the people.
