Finnish Politician; Sanna Marin, is set to become the world’s youngest Prime Minister at 34. On Sunday 8 December 2019, she won a vote to replace the outgoing Prime Minister by a hair’s breadth. Belonging to the Social Democratic Party, Sanna Marin is expected to be sworn in tomorrow; Tuesday.
Prequel to her election, she was the Transportation Minister in Finland. Antti Rinne, who would be former Prime Minister, resigned his job following his handling of a postal strike. When asked about her age vis-a-vis the position, Sanna Marin responded: “I have not actually ever thought about my age or my gender. I think of the reasons I got into politics and those things for which we have won the trust of the electorate”.
Like Jenni Karimaki rightly observes, “now the picture is changing of what kind of people can bear high-level political responsibility’.
