Being called up to the Torah reading is called an Aliyah. The same word is used when moving to Israel. The word means ascending.
When we move to Israel we ascend. We go from the lower world, up to the Holy Land. This is not a physical ascent. Coming to the Holy Land is a spiritual ascent.
When we are called up to the Torah we ascend. Not only do we go up to the Altar, we go up and stand before Hashem.
Look in the Torah portion you were called up to for any particular message for you, especially if you are not called up very often. Everything happens for a reason including why you were called up for that specific portion.
