In the United States and around the world, October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During this annual international health campaign, many breast cancer organizations arrange local charities to raise funds for research of breast cancer, but also to increase awareness to its cause, as well as prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure.

The pink ribbon

Additionally, many organizations offer information and financial support for people affected by this disease. BCAM campaigns first started back in 1985 when American Cancer Society partnered up with Imperial Chemical Industries – pharmaceutical division which produces several anti-breast cancer drugs. From the very start, BCAM promoted mammography as the most efficient weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

The pink ribbon – the symbol of BCAM – was established in 1993 by Evelyn Lauder, founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (although this was not the first time the ribbon was used to symbolize breast cancer).

During this month, many events around the world are organized to raise awareness about breast cancer, including runs, walks, and even to attach the pink ribbon to their logos and other brand marks.

Join the fight against breast cancer

Not only women get affected by breast cancer, but men as well. During their medical leave, bills tend to pile up, and many breast-cancer affected families also suffer. Mortgage, rent, car lease, credits – these all need to be paid, and luckily some organizations have decided to assist patients in paying the bills during their medical leave.
