Palestine Resolution, Congress surrenders to Vajpayee

New Delhi: The Congress has had to resort to the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee for its defense when the resolution was passed in support of Palestine in the meeting of the Congress Working Committee. The Congressional resolution mentions the rights of the Palestinian people while remaining silent on terrorist attacks on Israel. While the BJP has questioned this resolution, the Congress has defended that Atal Bihari Vajpayee himself favored the struggle for the rights of the people of Palestine. The Congress has denied that there are any differences within the party on the issue of the resolution and has accused the BJP of giving a political color to the Palestine issue.

The BJP has hit out at the Congress alleging that it is favoring Hamas. BJP says that Vajpayee favored the rights of the people of Palestine and did not favor terrorist attacks by organizations including Hamas.
