Badal a behind-the-scenes player in the rise of militancy in Punjab

- The Anandpur Sahib Resolution was behind the strong demand for Khalistan in Punjab and Badal was the initiator of it.

- The Anandpur Sahib Resolution is considered a turning point in Indo-Punjab politics and Prakash Singh Badal was its initiator. Had this resolution not happened, the demand for Khalistan would not have become strong in Punjab and terrorism would not have flared up. In this resolution, giving more autonomy to Punjab to run according to the principles of Sikhism and recognizing Sikhism as a separate religion from Hinduism were two main issues. Badal-Barnala separated the Sikhs from the Hindus for political gain.

With the demise of former president of Shiromani Akali Dal and former Chief Minister of Punjab, Prakash Singh Badal, a veteran leader left the political arena of Punjab. 95-year-old Prakash Singh Badal was the Chief Minister of Punjab for five times and in his political career of almost seven decades, he held many positions from Member of Lok Sabha to Minister at the Centre.

Badal, who jumped into politics at the age of 20 after being elected as the sarpanch of Badal village, started his first MLA in 1957 and ended his political career in 2022 after losing badly in the Punjab Assembly elections. In the 65 years since then, Badal has been elected to the post of MLA eight times and once elected to the Lok Sabha and also a Union Minister in Morarji Desai's government. became

Prakash Singh Badal's political career can be said to be very successful as very few politicians can stay in the post of MLA till the age of 93. Badal was 93 years old when he lost the 2022 elections. With such a long political career, it is only natural that everyone from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lower level leaders pay tribute to him. These are political principles and a person who is sitting in the office of Prime Minister has to follow those political principles but at the same time he has to accept one thing.

Badal's political career has been extremely long but full of controversies. Badal had the usual vices found in most Indian politicians like corruption or nepotism, but the serious thing was the anti-India stance he once took. The demand for a separate nation of Khalistan for the Sikhs became stronger in Punjab from the 1970s. This demand was not acceptable so a section of Sikhs went on the rampage of terrorism and shed rivers of innocent blood in Punjab.

Jarnailsingh Bhindranwale is blamed for the Sikh youth's involvement in terrorism, but in reality the real players behind the scenes were the leaders of the Akali Dal. Due to the Anandpur Sahib Resolution made by Surjit Singh Barnala, Prakash Singh Badal, Gurcharan Singh Tohra etc. for political gain, the Khalistan issue which had gone cold ignited and militancy flared up in Punjab.

Sikhs have been demanding 'Khalistan' for a long time. Indira Gandhi satisfied this demand by dividing Punjab into three parts and creating a separate Punjab for Sikhs in 1966. As a result, the Congress won 13 out of 12 seats in Punjab in the 1971 Lok Sabha elections and a clear majority in the 1972 assembly elections. Badal-Barnala of the badly defeated Akali Dal raised the issue of Punjab's autonomy at the holy place of Anandpur Sahib in 1973.

In this resolution, giving more autonomy to Punjab to run according to the principles of Sikhism and recognizing Sikhism as a separate religion from Hinduism were two main issues.

The Sikh sect existed only to protect Hinduism. For centuries Sikhs and Hindus were united but Badal-Barnala separated the two for political gain. Badal is credited with Sikhs being a minority now and not part of Hinduism.

The Anandpur Sahib Resolution is also considered a turning point in Indo-Punjab politics and Badal was its initiator. Had this resolution not happened, the demand for Khalistan would not have become strong in Punjab and terrorism would not have flared up. Badal has since been accused of harboring terrorists and extremists. Badal has passed away so these things may not be remembered keeping the legacy of his death but it is necessary to know these things because this issue is related to the unity and security of the country. Inciting terrorism for political gain or building a wall between people in the name of religion is an unforgivable crime.

Badal was at the center of Punjab politics for a long time but now the Akali Dal has to die. The reason for that is badal. Badal made the Akali Dal his family property and the Badal family committed rampant corruption while in power, making the Badal family a disgrace. His son Sukhwinder Singh is currently the President of the Akali Dal and has been the Deputy Chief Minister.

Sukhwinder's wife Harsimrat Kaur is an MP and was a minister in the Modi government but resigned during the farmers' agitation, Sukhwinder's brother-in-law Vikram Majithia was also a cabinet minister, Sukhwinder's sister Praneet Kaur's husband Adesh Pratap Singh Cairo was also a cabinet minister. In short, the Badal family has enjoyed many political positions.

After his alliance with the BJP, Badal left the extremists side, but the past before that is a checkered one. Badal also remained at the center of power in Punjab for years after militancy subsided in Punjab because people have short memories.

Badal publicly burnt a copy of the country's constitution

Prakash Singh Badal not only played a role in inciting terrorism in Punjab but was also involved in anti-national activities. Badal burnt a copy of the Constitution outside the historic Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in Delhi on 27 February 1984.

Article 25 of the Constitution of India provides freedom of religion. The Akali Dal demanded that the central government amend the constitution and give a separate identity and status to the Sikhs in the constitution. For this, Badal along with thousands of Akali Dal workers burnt a copy of the Constitution in Delhi.

Badal blamed the then president of the Akali Dal, Harcharan Singh Logonwal, for his misconduct. Badal claimed that he was against burning a copy of the constitution, but Longowal insisted that the top five leaders of the Akali Dal express their opposition by burning a copy of the constitution. Among these, four leaders were arrested in Chandigarh and thus escaped the burning of the copy of the constitution but got themselves trapped.

Badal claimed that he had reached Delhi from Chandigarh in disguise. The then President Giani Zailsingh also advised him not to burn the copy of the constitution but as he was a true follower of Logowal, he told Zailsingh to discuss this issue with Longawal only.

Badal does not like this. Badal, who had been the Chief Minister of Punjab, was 57 years old at that time. How can a 57 year old person be forced to do an act against his will? Badal later apologized to the country for this misdeed.

Captain's allegation: Terrorists were stationed under Badal's security

The alliance with the BJP stopped pointing fingers at Prakash Singh Badal for being anti-Hindu. Until the 1990s, Badal was considered anti-Hindu. Most of those killed in the militancy that broke out in Punjab were Hindus. About 35 thousand Hindus are said to have been killed by Khalistanist Hindus. Why Badal always keeps silent on the issue of killing of Hindus?

Captain Amarinder Singh, who left the Congress and now joined the BJP, made a shocking allegation that terrorist organizations were providing security to Badal. Khalistan Commando Force (KKF) was the most active terrorist organization during the outbreak of terrorism in Punjab. KKF had many factions and the most powerful one was Gurjant Singh from Rajasthani. The captain has alleged that men from Rajasthan were deployed 24 hours under Badal's security. Badal has also alleged that Badal was silent against the killing of Hindus in Punjab. The captain has also alleged that Badal, afraid of the growing influence of Jarnailsingh Bhindranwale, asked the then Home Minister P.V. Narasimharao recommended sending an army to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. After Rao implemented this advice, Badal jumped to take advantage of it.
