Bishop of Perez Chapel declares one-week fast and prayers over Nogokpo controversy

The Presiding Bishop of Perez Chapel International, Benjamin Ohene Aboagye, has called on members of the church worldwide to observe a one-week fast accompanied by prayers in response to the Nogokpo controversy involving the Church.

The announcement was made during a church service on Sunday, June 4, on behalf of Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of the Church, who is currently on an international mission.

Archbishop Charles Agyinasare has clarified that his previous comments were never intended to denigrate the people of Nogokpo town and the Volta Region as a whole. During a sermon in Accra on Sunday, May 28, the Archbishop explained that he was referring to an incident that occurred after a crusade held in the Aflao area, not specifically targeting Nogokpo. He emphasized that his intention was to highlight instances of encountering manifestations of demonic powers during his extensive crusades around the world.

“I have had a cordial relationship with the people of the Volta Region – my wife of 38 years is an Ewe from Keta, and two of my biological children bear Ewe names,” Archbishop Agyinasare clarified, underscoring his respect for the region and its people. He expressed regret over any misrepresentations or misinformation surrounding his statements and reaffirmed his commitment to serving Ghana as a spiritual leader.

The video of Archbishop Agyinasare's sermon discussing divine protection and the existence of evil forces had stirred controversy after its publication online. The criticism from the media prompted reactions from the people of Nogokpo, including a statement from the Dufia of Nogokpo, Torgbi Saba V.

Other individuals, such as Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South, and local assembly members, voiced their concerns and called for an apology from the Archbishop.
