How much does it cost Israel to stop a Hamas rocket? Knowing the price will blow your mind

Israel Military: On October 6, 1973, the biggest attack ever took place on Israel. 50 years after this attack, i.e. on October 7, 2023, when 5000 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip in 20 minutes. Because of this, all of Israel was shaken. There was also a question that the world's most powerful intelligence agency Mossad and its anti-rocket missile system failed to stop this attack?

The whole world knows the strength of 'Iron Dome'

The whole world recognizes the strength of Israel's air defense system 'Iron Dome'. Iron Dome, famous for its 90 percent accuracy and ability to detect and destroy enemy missiles in the air, was unable to stop the Hamas attack this time. On the day after the establishment of Israel in May 1948, countries like Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria attacked it, to which Israel also responded befittingly. Even later such attacks continued. To counter such attacks, Israel began strengthening its border and defense systems. Iron Dome is one of the most powerful weapons in Israel's defense system. Other countries also have anti-drone systems, but Israel's system is considered the most powerful.

Cost of Iron Dome

According to a report, the cost of Iron Dome, which can destroy enemy missiles and rockets in mid-air, is around Rs 3 lakh crore. Talking about its interception range, it ranges from 2.5 miles to 45 miles. In 2021, the Institute for National Security Studies shared a report stating that Israel's interceptors cost $100,000, while others' interceptors cost $50,000. Only interceptors destroy enemy missiles. This means that if Israel had shot down all 5,000 Hamas rockets, the cost would have been Rs 2,079 crore.

Hamas' missile spending

Now if we talk about the Hamas missile, it has 'Qassam rocket', it costs 300 to 800 dollars, that means Hamas spends 25 thousand to 90 thousand rupees to make one of its rockets. If you look at it this way, Israel spends millions of rupees to stop a Hamas missile. The New Arab spoke to an Israeli expert who said Hamas could fire about 140 missiles a minute.

How does Iron Dome work?

Iron Dome works mainly in three ways...first it detects and tracks the enemy country's missile. followed by battle management and weapon control in the second step and missile targeting in the third step. When an enemy country targets its missile at Israel, the Iron Dome radar detects it and tracks it. The control system then checks the impact point, that is, it looks at how much damage the rocket would do if it hit Israel, and how far the impact would last if it was fired into the air. After this, the missile is targeted by the launcher as soon as the command is received from the control system. A missile is called an interceptor. The missile rocket approaches and detonates, destroying both the enemy missile and the interceptor.

Why did Iron Dome fail this time?

Iron Dome, deployed in 2011, operates with 90 percent accuracy, meaning it can destroy 90 of them in mid-air if faced with 100 missiles simultaneously. Israel started building the Iron Dome in 2006 after the terrorist attack by Hizbullah. This time Hamas attacked Israel with so many rockets in such a short amount of time that the Iron Dome was unable to stop them. More rockets were fired at Iron Dome than it could handle. Hamas always tries to find flaws in Israel's defense system so that it can use them to attack Israel.
