Let’s turn attention to the by-election – Elected Assin North NPP PC rallies

The newly-elected Parliamentary Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Assin North Constituency, Charles Opoku, has admonished supporters to cut short their celebrations and turn attention to the June 27 by-election.

Charles Opoku polled 397 out of the 538 total valid votes cast to beat his sole contender, Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei, who polled 136 votes, in the party’s primaries held on Wednesday, June 7.

In his acceptance speech, the new NPP Parliamentary Candidate charged supporters to fight to reclaim the seat for the NPP.

“I will plead with you all to add your strength, wisdom and knowledge to ours to reclaim the seat for NPP,” he said in Twi.

“You remember it is you who prevailed on me to contest and I have come to contest, so I am trusting that on the D-day, you vote massively for me.”

Losing aspirant Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei asked his supporters not to be discouraged by his defeat but to rally behind Charles Opoku and get the seat back for the NPP.

Charles Opoku will come face-to-face with former Member of Parliament (MP) James Gyakye Quayson in the by-elections.

Mr Gyakye Quayson was deposed after he was said to have held to his Canadian citizenship before filing his nomination ahead of the 2020 elections.

He beat incumbent Abena Durowaa Mensah in the 2020 elections.
