Biden Says US ‘Considering’ To End The Prosecution Of Julian Assange

“We’re considering it,” President Biden said in response to a question about Australia’s request that he end the prosecution of WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange.

The comment came Wednesday morning during a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishid at the White House.

Australia has intensified efforts to push both Washington and London to return Julian Assange, the 52-year-old Australian citizen, to his home country, as part of its ongoing campaign to end the case.

Assange is awaiting extradition to the United States, where he faces prosecution for violating the Espionage Act through the publication of classified materials.

The UK High Court ruled that Julian Assange could initiate a new appeal against extradition to the US. In the meantime, the UK High Court demands assurances from the US regarding Assange’s extradition, seeking guarantees that he will not face the death penalty.

The wife of Julian Assange has called on Joe Biden to “drop this shameful case.”

This is a developing news story.
