Liquor policy case: Enforcement Directorate questions Kejriwal’s PA, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak

The Enforcement Directorate on Monday summoned AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar in the excise liquor policy-linked money laundering case. Their statement is being recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Enforcement Directorate has questioned both of them in this case earlier.

According to reports, Kumar’s questioning was important in connection with the engagements of Kejriwal. The Enforcement Directorate arrested the Delhi Chief Minister in the liquor policy case last month. He is currently lodged in the Tihar Jail under judicial custody. At least 36 persons have been named by the Enforcement Directorate in its chargesheet, which includes former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Kumar, who destroyed, used or changed 170 phones to hide evidence of kickbacks worth thousands of crores of rupees in the alleged scam.

The ED charge sheet states that The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) of Bibhav’s mobile number had changed 4 times from September 2021 to July 2022.  Durgesh Pathak, the 35-year-old AAP MLA from Rajinder Nagar constituency, is understood to have been called by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in connection with the party’s 2021-22 election campaign for the Goa assembly elections.

The ED said the South Group had given a total bribe of Rs 100 crore out of which Rs 45 crore were used by the Aam Aadmi Party for their election campaign. The Enforcement Directorate further added that cash payments had been made to individuals involved in election campaign activities, which were managed by AAP members like Durgesh Pathak and Vijay Nair.

The Enforcement Directorate told the court that it has recorded the statements of various individuals who were engaged in the election campaign related activities of the Aam Aadmi Party during the Goa elections and it was found that cash payments had been made to them for work like area managers, assembly managers, survey workers etc.
