Why Did NDA Allot Sixth Row Seat For Rahul Gandhi In Republic Day Parade?

In quite a surprising move, Congress President Rahul Gandhi was seated in the sixth row at the main Republic Day event in Delhi. Although it is a low key affair, still the media persons didn’t fail to notice that. Rahul Gandhi took the designated seat along with the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Veteran Congress politician Salman Khurshid remarked,”It’s sad if those in power think somebody’s stature is decided by where that person is seated. Rahul Gandhi js not just a Congress MP anymore. He is also the president of India’s largest opposition party. And if the ruling party doesn’t understand that position, it is unfortunate. It shows how much respect the ruling party has for the democratic process.”

No NDA leader has clarified on the specific issue of Rahul Gandhi’s seat but as of now it seems to be a deliberate move and not a protocol wise decision. Although Rahul Gandhi himself hasn’t remarked on this, still the media didn’t miss it during live coverage of the glamorous event.
