I Wasn’t Supposed To, But I Did Anyway At The Royal Palace of Madrid

I Wasn’t Supposed To, But I Did Anyway At The Royal Palace of Madrid

The Royal Palace of Madrid is a beauty beyond description which makes this hard to write because I really need to show the pictures.  But taking pictures inside are forbidden.

I got away with it….I wasn’t supposed to but I got a few…..pictures.

Each room in the Palace is ‘beyond’ my words!!  And each room has one or two people along with cameras, motion detectors and such.  So, you’ve really got to be a good boy (or girl).

It was such a disappointment!!  Particularly for 2 rooms.

The dining room was out of this world!  I’m guessing here but the length of the table had to be somewhere between 30 and 40 yards (9 to 12 meters) fully set….breathe taking.

The room was further lined with sculptors of saints and gods….they seem to be gold plated.  All stood over 6 feet!  The sculptors were set on pedestales between windows on one side and equal distances facing each other on the other side.

The ceiling had carved fresco images in the corners in a room length rectangle and white (some with design) in the middle.  The walls were covered with what appeared to be stitched fabric in paterns!!!

It seems that the government back then owned all the major manufactering and distribution businesses as the information boldly bragged of this fact.  Nothing wrong with it, but the King and Queen had a willing and complying supplier for their every demand.

By the way, this dining area is a redesign of 3 bedrooms.  There were other rooms but unaccessible to the general public.

I managed to get a few photos in the entrance area and the first room where the attendant had rushed out after a disobeying visitor.

Royal Palace of Madrid…

Here’s a few photos I managed to get before the people in charge reprimanded me (well, they didn’t actually reprimand me because they didn’t know…they caught the next couple of people coming in…hehehehehe.

Understand…..this is a forbidden photograph.  I’ve another of the ceiling coming up shortly.

This is right before entering the quarters of the palace unpstairs.

The Royal Palace of Madrid (Palacio Real de Madrid) was the seat of the King of Spain from 1955 til 1931, now it is the host of social events and serves as a museum/tourist sight.  It has 1,450,000 sq ft of floor space and contains 3,418 luxurious rooms within.  The thing has it’s own church inside and it’s right across the courtyard is The Cathedral de Santa Maria la Real de la Almudena!!!

The interior of the palace is notable for its wealth of art and the use of many types of fine materials in the construction and the decoration of its rooms.  There are collections of great historical and artistic importance preserved in the building include the Royal Armoury of Madrid, porcelain, watches, furniture, silverware, and the world’s only complete Stradivarius string quintet.  I distinctly recall the silverware, a gift from France because it was all oversize!!  The forks had only 3 prongs, yet larger than Spain’s or the contemporary silverware of today.  Another thing I got to lay my eyes upon was the Stradivarius quintet!!!  I was in total ‘AWE’!!!  Of course as you can tell, I have no pictures!!!  I also recall observing the watches and porcelain….particularly the porcelain as one of the rooms walls and ceiling was decorated with porcelain!

Palacio Real de Madrid

Another GREAT thing about this visit is that I got to do it for FREE!!!  It was a Monday and it was….FREE after 4pm.  It took about 30 minutes in line to enter and it was worth it!

The far left is the entrance and the pic to the right is across in inner courtyard that was a surprise.  I guess it was for privacy for the family.

As for these two….. I don’t know how I got them and have no recollection of taking them!!!  But here they are!!  Photographic contraband!!!

I have a suggestion…. Buy yourself a plane ticket and spend about 60 days touring Spain….and don’t leave this beauty out!

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
