Alkaline Diet Shopping List

I very often get asked about Alkaline shopping lists, so here we go! I have a very simple system for organizing my foods into different categories, to make sure I always have some delicious alkaline foods and drinks at hand. Please note that nothing is set in stone – this alkaline shopping list can be easily personalized and customized depending on your and your family’s needs.

A Few Simple Tips When Shopping for Alkaline Foods and Drinks

Here’s what I need when shopping for alkaline foods (it’s like basic shopping lists, or, “an alkaline shopping list template”).

-Alkaline Fruits

-Alkaline Veggies

-Fresh Greens

-Herbs and Spices

-Nuts & Seeds

-Alkaline / Plant-Based Milk

-Alkaline protein

-Other

Alkaline Shopping List Template

Use this simple template, to create your own!

It feels good to shop for these energy-boosting, mind-body nourishing foods, but you don’t need all of them. Feel free to organize your lists the way you want. As always my intention is to inspire you to start adding more alkaline and plant-based foods into your diet (while respecting your nutritional lifestyle).

So, let’s do this! Let’s focus on ADDING and abundance of nutrient-packed, alkaline foods into your diet.

Step#1 Get Some Fresh Alkaline Fruit

As a general rule, the Alkaline Diet encourages you to focus on fruits that are low in sugar. That is why the following fruits are considered super-alkaline:

  • Lime
  • Lemon
  • Grapefruit
  • Avocado (yes, it’s a fruit)
  • Tomato (yes, it’s a fruit)
  • Pomegranate

Yes, acidic-tasting lemons, limes, and grapefruits are actually considered alkaline-forming fruits (once metabolized). The simplest explanation for it is that these fruits are very low in sugar and, at the same time, contain alkaline minerals such as Magnesium and Potassium.

You can learn more about Alkaline Fruits (and get some recipe ideas), from my other post HERE.

Step #2 Get Some Greens

Greens are very rich in chlorophyll and filled with alkaline minerals. They are amazing to help you enjoy more energy, naturally.

It’s always a good idea to have some greens at hand…so that you can add them to your smoothies and make delicious salads.

Even, if you do this alkaline thing part-time, or you combine it with some other diet(s), you can always benefit from adding more greens to your diet or serving your meals with a big bowl of delicious green salad. It’s a great step to help you move forward!

So, add some greens to your Alkaline Shopping Lists too…

  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Microgreens
  • Swiss chard
  • Arugula
  • Endive
  • Romaine lettuce

+ other fresh leafy greens and greens as well as herbs like:

  • Parsley
  • Mint
  • Chives
  • Dill
  • cilantro (tastes great in smoothies and juices!)

The goal of this blog and everything I do is to help you figure out what you like and what works for you.

Some people love spinach, while some prefer arugula or kale.

It’s not about forcing yourself to eat or drink something you absolutely can’t stand. It’s about mindfully exploring different options with the curiosity of a little child so that you can create a diet and lifestyle that you enjoy.

Step #3 Alkaline Veggies

All fresh veggies are considered alkaline! This one is a no brainer.

So, add these to your alkaline shopping lists too

  • Red bell pepper
  • Green bell pepper
  • Yellow bell pepper
  • Zucchini
  • Broccoli
  • Asparagus
  • Cauliflower
  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Cucumber
  • Radish
  • Artichoke
  • Carrot
  • Sweet potato

Step#4 Alkaline Spices & Herbs (+ other)

These taste amazing in smoothies, soups, salads, veggie stir-fries….

  • Cinnamon
  • Himalayan salt
  • Curry powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Cumin
  • Nutmeg
  • Italian herbs
  • Oregano
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender
  • Mint
  • Chamomile
  • Fennel
  • Cilantro
  • Turmeric

Step#5 Other (Alkaline Sweeteners and Supplements )

  • Stevia (it can be very helpful if you want to make a sweet smoothie without using sugar or sugar-containing foods or supplements)
  • Green powders
  • Moringa powder
  • Maca powder
  • Ashwagandha powder

Personally, I am a big fan of Organifi green powder, you can check it out here.

Step#6 Healthy Oil Ideas to Add to Your Alkaline Shopping Lists

  • Olive oil (organic, cold-pressed)
  • Avocado oil
  • Hemp oil
  • Flaxseed oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Sesame oil

My personal preference is – organic olive oil for salads, hummus etc. and coconut oil for cooking.

I also like adding avocado oil to my smoothies.

Step #7 Nuts and Seeds

  • Almonds (super-alkaline!)

other:

  • Cashews
  • Brazil nuts
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Walnuts
  • Pine nuts
  • Pistachios
  • Hazelnuts

These are also great natural sources of protein and good fats.

Step #8 Plant and Nut Based Milk & Other Liquids to Add to Your Alkaline Food/Drink Shopping Lists

As you may already know, dairy is not good for you, and so there is no dairy on the Alkaline Diet. (In this sense, the Alkaline Diet is similar to the Paleo Diet which also excludes milk and dairy products.)

Super-Alkaline Plant-Based Milk

  • Almond milk
  • Coconut milk

Some people are allergic to coconut and/or almond milk, or perhaps they don’t like them for whatever reason.

If that’s the case, there are other options available

Other alkaline liquids (great for smoothies, and all kinds of caffeine-free, nutritious drinks):

-all kinds of herbal infusions (caffeine-free)

-coconut water (no added sugar)

-clean, filtered, alkaline water

You can also use other plant-based milk such as:

-cashew milk

-gluten-free oat milk

-hazelnut milk

-quinoa milk

These are less alkaline than coconut and almond milk (a staple plant-based milk on the alkaline diet) but are still healthy and nutritious.

Step #9 Plant-Based Protein

-Quinoa

-beans (personally, I love adzuki beans – easier to digest lol).

-chickpeas

-lentils

These are great for alkaline soups and veggie stir-fries.

+ anything else you want to add, just keep it healthy, nutritious and clean
