Haven for Minimalists

On my recent trip to Japan, I learned a few things- that Japan has the cleanest bathrooms, and that I love their 7 Eleven and Muji. I used to visit Muji once in a while when I lived in New York, but only to look really, and only because people I was with wanted to go. I would say that I didn’t see the value… until I went to Osaka and went to the “real” thing. Woah. This was an enlightening experience. They had everything from the prettiest highlighters to an amazing selection of snacks, clothing, even a fancy cafe:

I was there to buy some gifts so wasn’t really looking to buy anything for myself at the time… until I had a seven hour lay over at Kansai Airport and ran into another Muji store where I almost completely lost control. First of all, things are cheap especially with the exchange rate- I was able to pick up some really high quality fitted t-shirts for something like $8 each, but the most pleasantly surprising item I came across was their pajamas. I had been desperately looking for something to wear to bed for quite some time, and didn’t expect to run into them at an airport, in Japan, out of all the places.

I learned that they sell them on the US online store as well, but obviously it’s a lot more expensive here. It’s definitely worth every penny though- they are made with the softest cotton that’s double layered, and fits perfectly if you go a size up- oh yeah, that’s one thing- you always need to consider the fact that Japanese tend to be a bit smaller than Americans, so must make sure that we go a size up when we buy clothes- which is something I learned the hard way after purchasing a dress without trying it on (Fail!). I take it as a consequence of my laziness. Well, I still wear it, with leggings underneath. LOL. So yeah, if you get the chance, definitely check out Muji nearby (if there is one, that is. haha) If not, their online store isn’t too bad (actually it is because it probably only carries like 30% of what they sell in Japan) but it’s better than nothing. For now, sayonara~ (not a sponsored post, although I wouldn’t mind it at all)
