How To Connect Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 To A Monitor

There are multiple ways to connect your Galaxy Tab S8 to a monitor, and the best way to do it is to use Samsung DeX mode.

How to Use Samsung DeX Mode on the Galaxy Tab S8?

Simply toggle DeX mode on your Galaxy Tab S8 to start using Samsung DeX. In its stead, an interface resembling a Chromebook or Windows laptop will replace the current Android Home Screen.

Set it up by following these steps:

  • Return to the Home Screen of your Galaxy Tab S8.
  • To access the Quick Settings panel, swipe down twice on the status bar.
  • Then press the DeX button.

After it has been enabled, which will take some time, your tablet will go into DeX mode. Now, you can use apps that actually support multiple windows and set specific icons to appear on the “desktop.” Even better, you can choose a different background that only appears when DeX mode is engaged.

How to Automatically Activate Samsung Dex

On occasion, you might want to just connect a keyboard or a cord to your Galaxy Tab S8 and start DeX right away. Thankfully, Samsung made both of those alternatives possible, but you’ll need to look through your settings to get everything up and running properly.

  • Launch the Settings app on the Samsung Tab S8.
  • Scroll down and tap Advanced Features on the left sidebar.
  • Tap the right side to select Samsung DeX. Turn on the Book Cover Keyboard’s auto-start feature.
  • Check that Auto Start is enabled when HDMI is connected.
  • Close the Settings program.

If you have these two options enabled, you will not need to manually enable Samsung DeX; it will start up instantly. Of course, you are not required to activate both. You can configure DeX to only launch when an HDMI cable is attached. The inverse is also true. DeX can start instantly when the keyboard cover is attached; however, DeX cannot start when an HDMI cable is connected.

How to Use Your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 as a Secondary Screen

If you want to use the Galaxy Tab S8 as a secondary screen, make sure it is running One UI 3.1 or a later build and is not currently in DeX mode attached to another screen. A previous Samsung Galaxy S tablet can also act as a secondary screen if it fits the software criteria. Here’s how to get started:

  • Step 1: From the top edge of the screen, slide down to bring up the Quick Settings dashboard on your Samsung Tab S8.
  • Step 2: Slide the Quick Settings panel’s second page to the left to show it, then hit the icon for the second screen.
  • Step 3: Clicking the symbol activates the dedicated second screen page. Here, there are two possibilities: Use the video mode to watch content and the drawing or game modes for tasks that require quick responses.
  • 4. Select the mode based on your workflow or the requirement for an additional screen. Stay on this page while moving your computer.

PC Setup

Computers running Windows 10 and Windows 11 both offer the ability to configure a Samsung Galaxy S tablet as a second display. In this situation, there are no minimum system requirements; therefore, a PC with a low-end Celeron or a high-end Intel Core or AMD Ryzen CPU will function flawlessly when connected. You need to take the following actions:

  • Step 1: Press Windows + K on your computer to display the wireless display dashboard, which appears on the right side of the screen.
  • Step 2: On this dashboard, you can see the name of your Samsung tablet. Click on it to start the pairing procedure.
  • Step 3: A dialogue box asking if you want to enable keyboard and mouse input on both screens will appear once you couple the two devices. Check the box to enable keyboard input on your tablet and PC, and move the pointer.
  • Step 4: Navigate to your PC’s display settings area and make any more necessary changes to features like resolution, refresh rate, and content scaling. Display > System > Configuration
  • Step 5: To acquire more screen space, you may either choose to mirror the PC’s display on the Galaxy Tab S8 or use it as a second desktop monitor.
  • Step 6: A little toolbar will appear on top of each display when the Secondary Screen capability is enabled. After tapping the Pin icon to make it disappear, move the cursor back over it to bring it back.
  • Step 7: When you’re done and no longer require a second screen, choose Disconnect from the toolbar that appears at the top of the screen. You may also use the Windows + K shortcut to open the wireless display dashboard directly to break the pairing between the tablet and your PC.

Please Note

When you first set up the Galaxy Tab S8 as a secondary screen, the cursor movement could be a little jerky and janky. You should be ready for some input lag if you plan to use the Tab S8 for gaming, regardless of the DPI settings on your gaming mouse. Things will work out better if you modify the scale and make both screens’ refresh rates the same.

Conclusion

Connecting your Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 to a monitor is a very simple process. Just make sure to follow the steps I have listed for you, and you should be fine.
