My Current Playlist and The Importance of Music

Tags: music song lyrics

Music can be such an influence on your mood. It can make you smile and laugh. It can make you dance and forget the world. It uplifts and energises you. The power of a Song should never be underestimated. I find that no matter where you are, on the bus, in our room, at a bar etc, there will always be lyrics and melodies that you recognise and relate to without realising. There are lyrics that have been written for every experience in our lives and every emotion we could ever feel. To me, it is a pleasure to explore and discover them.

Music has always been something that I am very passionate about (despite having no actual talents myself, seriously I’m tone deaf!). As someone who loves to write and loves language, I find it fascinating how lyrics combine with sound to create art that travels worldwide and has such an emotional effect on so many. For me, music has largely been an escape and an expression. When I was younger, music was what kept me going. It was where I found comfort when things were tough. Music was what introduced me to the people that would save me and make me who I am today. One artist in particular has no idea that the simple act of listening to their song, to their words, saved my life.

Because of all this, I thought I would share with you by current ‘playlist’ – songs that I keep coming back to because of how they make me feel. I’ve recently finished my degree, so my life is a bit all over the place at the moment and I am experiencing a lot of mixed emotions, but these songs are helping to get me through.

  1. Off The Hook – Hudson Taylor
  2. How Far I’ll Go – Auli’I Cravalho (Moana Soundtrack)
  3. Folding Stars – Biffy Clyro
  4. Hard Times – Paramore
  5. Nightmare – The Amity Affliction
  6. Far To Fall – Newton Faulkner
  7. New Man – Ed Sheeran
  8. Remedy – Adele
  9. Ghost In The Mirror – Mallory Knox
  10. Scars – James Bay
