Mirror, Mirror!

QUESTION?? How many times do you look in the Mirror a day? I mean, really take some time to add up how many times you are looking in the mirror. Don't forget to include the times you try to sneak a peek when your passing by a glass building, or a window display.  To be completely honest with you, I don't even have a number in my head. It's pretty much whenever I get a chance to look at my reflection. What makes it worse is that, I'm not looking for my reflection to marvel at how beautiful I am...I'm looking to see what I need to fix. If you are truly being honest with yourself, when you look in the mirror, you are looking for IMPERFECTIONS. You spot your first one and it goes down hill from there. Take this for example, you step to the mirror and see your hair is out of place, just a little, only to complain that it's too limp, the color is dull, you wish it were longer and blah, blah, blah. But, you're not done, you scroll down to your face and notice your laugh lines are getting deeper, your nose isn't as straight as it used to be, your lips are too thick, and your chin has a stubborn hair that keeps coming back. You take a deep sigh, and you take a step back and you look at the rest of you, with the same critical thinking. Congratulations! You have become your own worst enemy.  I don't know about you, but I have enough enemies out there, and some "so-called" friends out there that are ready to jump on the first opportunity to point out my flaws and throw them up in my face, as well as point them out to others to see. Why should I join them? I was so quick to look in the mirror and focus on what's wrong with my face or hair or body, not realizing...there is someone out there that wishes they had my features, or my hair, or my body. Yessss, I said body. There are people out there that wish they could gain weight, but may be too sick to gain weight. Some people with straight hair wish they had curly hair, and vice versa. So what your lips are big, figure out what color goes well with minimizing their appearance if it bothers you that much. Or, you can just embrace yourself. STOP LOOKING FOR IMPERFECTIONS AND START APPRECIATING HOW GOD CREATED YOU! Psalms 139:14 says "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. "  So if God made you in His image and after His likeness, who are you to criticize that? I'm speaking to myself as well! If we can keep that scripture in our minds, as we look at ourselves in the mirror, at our reflection, our days, weeks, months, years will go a lot better. Have you ever looked back at an old picture and said, Wow, I really was something. If I knew then what I know now, I would've appreciated myself a little more. I know I have many times, and I'm choosing to stop TODAY!!! That's not to say that when your in the mirror, handle what you need to handle. Style your hair, moisturize your skin, adjust your blouse. Do what you need to do, but instead of looking at your imperfections, smile at yourself and tell yourself...YOU ARE FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE! While you are on your journey, appreciate yourself! Don't wait until you've reached your goal weight to start appreciating and feeling good about yourself. It is important to do that now. My challenge this week is about treating yourself. Atleast one day this week, treat yourself to a therapeautic bath. Whether you like epsom salt, bath salt, bubble baths, bath oils, etc. Whatever you like, add that to a nice relaxing bath. If you want, burn aromatherapy candles, listen to soft instrumentals and remind yourself that you are important. Pamper yourself. Immediately your self worth goes up, you feel better about your life, and you may even do better on your weight loss journey. My goal with this challenge is that it becomes a habit. Once a week is not too much to ask for yourself. Just remember, YOU ARE WORTH IT!
