Arguably one of the greatest rock operas of all time would be Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar (I was actually in a band with Jeff Fenholt who played Jesus in the original Broadway version).

And two of the biggest stand out songs were Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say) and Heaven On Their Minds.

So at Gabriela’s prompting, we decided to take them both on!

First up to bat is Heaven On Their Minds.

What makes these kinds of songs so challenging is not just simply the melody or the range, but actually living out this song while singing it!

And yes, there are some very difficult intervallic notes placed throughout the song, but it’s the stepping into the character of this song and selling it hard that is the most difficult part.
