Great Good Fine Ok – “Breathing”

“Breathing” is a chilled-out, funk-tinged pop groover from Great Good Fine Ok, the Brooklyn-based duo of vocalist Jon Sandler and producer/multi-instrumentalist Luke Moellman. They describe this track as “about dealing with the end of the world, both metaphorically and literally,” — propelled by Sandler’s dynamic vocal charisma, from subdued soulfulness into escalating falsetto, alongside Moellman’s crisply atmospheric pop production.

“I look up and the sky’s caving in,” foreboding lyrics are contrasted by a Debonair rhythmic push, with funky guitars and bass driving into the synth-glowing hook. Sandler’s vocals compel with a debonair tone throughout, with short bursts of vibrant upticks in pitch furthering the captivating sound. “The ground is shaking, hard to pretend,” the vocals continue a sense of impending doom, as a snazzy brass-laden conclusion takes hold. “Ok Breathing” is a stylishly melodic success from Great Good Fine Ok.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
