Gig review – Kontasto, Celestial Oath, and Mole Men at the Duke Saturday 02/04/2022 by guest writer Pete Ross from Traumasaur.

Saturday night in town. What other way to enjoy it than seeing some bands at The Duke of Enmore with mates, enjoying a few drinks out front beforehand?

It’s hard to nail down in words the cacophony of noise the Mole Men create. Thrash rock with a country twang would be the best I could come up with. With his Telecaster, Tim builds a crazy stereo wall of sound, adding layers overtop of Matt’s drums and Jay’s driving bass. Nick’s passionate vocals and energy proved too much for an unfortunate mic stand, but that was hardly a hindrance for the Mole Men. Hanging to see these subterranean rockers again soon!

Next was stoner/doom with a good dose of old school metal trio, Celestial Oath. This trio know how to write some cool songs. Mad vocals, insane riffs, and headbanging energy! The crowd was not disappointed and begged for more. Even Rusty the house dog made an appearance on the floor!

Closing the night was Kontasto, launching their single Necromancer. This five-piece psyche/stoner/rock group kicked into overdrive. The double guitar attack of Kristoff and Juggs, the sludgy drum and bass backbone provided by Noel and Damo, and the vocal’s smashed out by Matt as he ripped through the crowd like a crazed preacher man.

Banging out other numbers like Mainstream Liberteen and Bullseye Smile, these lads whipped sweaty, frothing energy out of the crowd and tore a hole in space and time. The evening was closed with the debut of their single Necromancer and finishing off with You Are/You’re.

It was a good night to be at The Duke of Enmore.
