Aston Martin DB11 – The New King Tourer?

When it comes to grand touring cars, there is one brand that dominates both the headlines and the roads. Aston Martin. For over the last decade their DB9 has been the darling GT of the motoring world.

In 2014, Aston Martin acquired Andy Palmer as the new CEO and he set to work re-establishing the Aston Martin brand. His first major act was agreeing to create an Aston Martin specifically for James Bond in Spectre.

That car has since been used as the template for the next generation of Aston Martins, most visibly with the DB11.

GT Engine

In Spectre, the DB10 came with a 4.7-litre V8 engine. The DB11 has a twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 engine producing 600 bhp. The engine also comes with cylinder deactivation when simply cruising in order to improve fuel efficiency and has stop/start technology. With regards to acceleration, the DB11 is quick. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. When it comes to flat out top speed, you can expect to break that 200 mph barrier.

It has an eight-speed automatic gearbox so those of you who are fans of the manual will be disappointed. This gearbox is particularly effective at putting the power down on the road.

DB11 Styling

When you look at the DB11, there are a few things that are clear. It is a front-engined, rear-wheel drive couple with long, wide and low proportions. The body is designed with good looks and aerodynamics in mind, especially with the traditional Aston Martin grille that helps improves airflow around and through the car.

Interior

If you are looking for a uniquely striking interior, then Aston Martin as always will deliver. Almost everything inside is handmade, including the brogued leather on the doors. The traditional speed dial and rev counter have been replaced with a full-colour 12-inch TFT LCD display. This matches with the new 8-inch TFT screen on the centre dash that is dedicated to the infotainment system, which is controlled by a rotary system and optional touchpad that offers you character recognition and gesture support. When Aston Martin updates, it updates with pure class and style.

When it comes to the interior colour, there is a brilliant choice of palette to choose from. If you are looking to customise your car for it to be unique to you, then choose your colours and Aston Martin will deliver.

GT Driving

With GT driving, you expect smooth comfort with the potential for fast, controlled fun. Aston Martin DB11 delivers in spades. The steering is quick and perfectly accurate whilst the chassis is beautifully balanced. The ride is relaxed and comfortable, absorbing the bigger bumps.

When driving, you can feel the power and might of the engine in front of you. The best and most beautiful sounding moment if when you reach around 4000 rpm and stick to that mid-range. You really experience a sound that you cannot get from any other manufacturer. It is distinctly an Aston Martin.
