Goodbye Vistara Airlines! Air India to discontinue Vistara after merger

Air India’s CEO Campbell Wilson has announced that the Tata group-owned Airline will discontinue the Vistara brand, once the merger with Tata SIA Airlines Ltd is completed. The news was shared during an online press briefing.

Air India Airlines will soon take over the Vistara brand of flights, following the Tata Group’s merger with the airline. This news was revealed at an online press briefing, resulting in the end of one of India’s most premier airlines.

Tata Group’s merger with Air India has resulted in the discontinuation of the Vistara brand of flights, one of India’s most premier airlines. This news was shared during an online press briefing, prompting the end of the Vistara brand.

Air India chief Campbell Wilson announced on Monday that, after the merger of Vistara, the full-service airline will be known as Air India, since it is more widely recognised outside of the country. This move is part of the airline’s goal to become a major international aviation player.

In light of the Tata Group’s buy-out of Air India, in an effort to revamp the airlines’ services as a private entity, Air India chief Campbell Wilson has emphasised that efforts will be made to retain some of the “Vistara heritage” into the full-service carrier. This comes after the carrier incurred repeated losses.

Since January of last year, the Tata Group has been working to revive the struggling Air India, and has now announced the merger of Vistara with the airline. Additionally, AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India, is being integrated with Air India Express.

At a virtual media interaction, Air India’s CEO Campbell Wilson declared that the airline group’s goal is to have one full-service airline and one low-cost airline. This full-service airline will be a combination of Air India and Vistara, and efforts are being made to retain the heritage of both airlines.

Sambit Mohanty, Creative Head for South of McCann Worldgroup, believes that Air India should take on board Vistara’s superior flying experience in order to become a leader in customer satisfaction, something the brand currently lags in. In July 2022, Vistara became the second-largest domestic airline in India, maintaining the title for six months. However, by January of the following year, Air India had taken the second spot with a market share of 9.2%.
