TikTok Banned in Canada on all Official Devices

Canada has banned Tiktok from all government-managed networks and devices. In doing this, Canada joins the U.S. federal government, many American states and the European Commission in banning TikTok.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared the ban because of worries about the app’s security. Government-owned devices in Canada will not longer have access to the app.

As per reports, the decision was made to guarantee governmental security. An internal study revealed information that TikTok’s data-gathering techniques may leave users susceptible to cyber assaults.

Why was TikTok Banned in Canada?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau banned TikTok in Canada due to worries about the app’s security. As per the prime minister, “there was enough to worry about the app’s security to warrant the adjustment”

This week, TikTok will be removed from all government-issued devices and phones and the government will prohibit all future downloads. The app has received a lot of criticism for its use of confidential data and its links to Chinese government.

TikTok is an app owned by ByteDance Ltd, a company based out of China which has close connections to the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party.

Ms Fortier’s Statement was “On a mobile device, TikTok’s data gathering techniques provide significant access to the phone’s contents. While the dangers of using this programme are obvious, we have no proof that government information has been breached at this time.”’

Tiktok’s response to Canada’s Ban

TikTok company representatives said that the the ban on government-issued devices has occurred without mentioning any particular security worries about TikTok or approaching TikTok to address any worry prior to making the decision.

The statement by TikTok is “We are always ready to meet with government officials to talk how we safeguard Canadians’ privacy and security, but singling out TikTok in this manner does nothing to accomplish that common objective. All it does is prevent officials from communicating with the people on a forum that millions of Canadians enjoy,”
