A Step-by-Step Guide to Planning Your Wedding at Home

Most people have dreams of getting married in their backyard. The thought is romantic, and the idea of not needing to coordinate with a Wedding planner or venue is very appealing. However, without some planning, your dream may never become a reality! Here are some steps you can take to help plan your ideal wedding at home. Image credit Create the Ambience  Focus on creating a relaxed atmosphere that is inviting to guests. If you are planning an outdoor event, try to have the seating and tables under some shelter (trees or a tent) if it rains. Have some plan B’s if the weather gets bad such as keeping everyone inside for cocktails before moving onto dinner or setting up tents for outside dining. Depending on the wedding time, it might be a good idea to have some activities and entertainment planned throughout the day, such as lawn games like bocce ball, croquet, or movies playing inside (if you’re having an evening wedding), or even music set up outdoors. Refurbish Your Outdoors There are many things to consider when planning a wedding at home. The first step is to find a beautiful outdoor space for your ceremony and reception. If you can’t book an actual venue, it might be helpful if the backyard can accommodate 100 guests.  Make sure that all your vendors have access to the property so they can do their job. From there, you can decorate with a combination of indoor and outdoor items depending on your theme to create the perfect setting for your big day. If you are worried about storing and moving things, worry not more. You may want to temporarily store these items at Bekins Moving Solutions to avoid congestion and confusion during the wedding. Keep Your Guest List to the Minimal Keeping your guest list minimal can be a difficult task, but it is less. To reduce the number of guests, divide your list into two categories: those who will attend and those you have no control over whether they come or not. When deciding if someone can’t make it to your wedding or if they are on the “not attending” portion of your list, you should ask yourself some questions. First, are the immediate family members? If so, you can always plan to see them on their own before or after the wedding.  If not, what are the chances of seeing this person in the future? Are they close friends who spread out across different areas of your life, such as work and social circle? In this case, you can always send them a wedding selfie to remind them of the day. Are they on your list because it’s just easier to invite everyone from work and not hurt their feelings? It is never ok. You should be able to limit your guest list so that only those who are truly important make the cut (and if this means you must ditch a work colleague for your best friend, do it!). Use the Same Space for the Reception and After Party If you can’t find the right venue or space for your wedding, why not use the same place?  The great thing about using your house is that you can design the entire look with color and make sure everything ties in. For example, if there are blue roses everywhere at the wedding reception, why not paint most walls in a light shade of blue to match? That way, guests will feel like they’re walking into a magical world. Conclusion It is a lot of work planning your wedding at home, but you don’t have to do it all in one day. If you start the process early enough and take things slowly, there’s no reason why every single aspect can’t be perfect – just like you!
