Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mla Sadhna Singh has caused a stir with her remarks on BSP chief Mayawati. At a rally on Saturday, she referred to Mayawati as “a person worse than a eunuch”, according to reports.

NDTV quoted her as saying, “She (Mayawati) has no self-respect… she was almost molested earlier and yet… in history, when Draupadi was molested, she took a vow to seek revenge… but this woman, she lost everything, but still sold her dignity for the sake of power.”

 The Mughalsarai MLA, as Hindustan Times pointed out, was referring to an incident from 1995 when Mayawati, along with several other BSP leaders, was attacked by Samajwadi Party workers. 

“I take this opportunity to condemn Mayawati, who calls herself a woman. She is a shame on the entire womankind. BJP leaders saved her dignity, and she sold it for the sake of her comfort and power. Women from the entire country condemn her,” Singh was further quoted as saying by ANI.

Her remarks come soon after the BSP and the SP announced an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to unitedly fight the BJP. 

Singh’s statement drew strong criticism. BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra called her “mentally ill”.

Samajwadi Party has also condemned her for her remarks with party chief Akhilesh Yadav tweeting:

मुगलसराय से भाजपा की महिला विधायक ने जिस तरह के आपत्तिजनक अपशब्द सुश्री मायावती जी के लिए प्रयोग किए हैं वे घोर निंदनीय हैं. ये भाजपा के नैतिक दिवालियापन और हताशा का प्रतीक है. ये देश की महिलाओं का भी अपमान है.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken suo motu cognisance of the statement made by Singh, reported ANI.
