Hoge reached the green on the par-5 18^th in two, and his eagle putt settled just a few feet away for a manageable birdie chance that would’ve sent him into the clubhouse at -6 and a share of the lead.

Instead, the golf gods had other ideas.

It looked like Hoge’s putt was going to settle in for an unremarkable birdie, but the ball suddenly took a turn to the left—with some speed behind it—and added insult to injury by leaving him with a difficult par putt.

Hoge missed the putt for par, settling for a brutal four-putt and a bogey that had him in the clubhouse at 4-under.

Hoge isn’t teeing off until Friday afternoon for round two, so hopefully, enough time has gone by for the man who’s in 17^th place in FedEx Cup standings to put that horrible break behind him.
