PADI Instructor Specialty training on Phuket during December 2017

PADI Instructor Specialty training on Phuket during December 2017

It was a blast having done the PADI Instructor Specialty Training on Phuket during December 2017 with Christian and Dimitri in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' at Kata beach.

Christian and Dimitri both participated in the full MSDT prep program and had five specialties at instructor level to choose from. Both of them chose the wreck-, night-, drift-, self reliant instructor level specialties. Christian also opted for the deep dive training and Dimitri for the DSMB or Delayed Surface Marker Buoy training.
This is not to mention the Enriched air instructor rating for Christian and the Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor training for Christian, Dimitri and Jan. These two Instructor level specialties are included in all of my current Padi Idc programs.

It was great to start the training off with a night dive at Kata beach. This is something I haven't done in a long time at this location and definitely something to repeat. The picture above gives a good indication how it looked like upon starting the dive.

During all the training dives we saw a lot of nice and cool animals, including a few 'firsts' for me. That's always the icing on the cake, when you spot an animal for the first time. This included the Ardeadoris sp nudi pictured above, but also a Pseudoceros monostichos, a marine flatworm that looks a lot like a nudi but actually is a flatworm.

We also saw lots of octopuses out in the open, which was a feast for the eye, with all the color changes occurring whilst observing them. Twice we actually had the privilege of looking at an octopus couple.

As already mentioned, self reliant was also on the menu. In order to be certified as a PADI Instructor for this specialty, you actually need to be a self reliant diver. This diver level specialty for the self reliant diver course, requires three dives. This resulted on being for one extra day on the boat, getting the three self reliant diver level training dives out of the way.
Especially towards the end of the year, this turned out to be a popular specialty. During my last three PADI IDC, respectively in Khao Lak, Moalboal in the Philippines and on Phuket, two people took this course.

Wreck diving was another popular specialty during the end of the year. Sandra and Maria participated in this specialty after the recent Khao Lak PADI IDC in November and now Christian and Dimitri participated in this specialty on Phuket.
An interesting and challenging specialty to boost and I'm glad I was able to teach this course to four very good students.

It was good to spend a lot of time under the water after the PADI IDC with both Christian and Dimitri. We had a lot of quality underwater time and some good times on the boat as well. Thanks to both of you for participating and am looking forward to see you soon.

Are you up for this mantra; Dive. Eat. Sleep. Repeat?
