Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and has since been battling the debilitating condition. The 52-year-old actress recently announced on her Instagram page that cancer had spread to her brain in January, and she had to undergo surgery to remove the tumor. Aside from her health struggles, Shannen also filed for divorce from her photographer husband.

Recently, Shannen was spotted leaving Nobu in Malibu with a female friend and bodyguard. Thankfully, she looked happy and healthy in a red blouse and cardigan as she smiled while being photographed before getting into her car to leave. It was a relief to see Shannen out and about despite her personal and health challenges so far.

Shannen revealed her first diagnosis in 2015, which was followed by a mastectomy and then radiation and chemotherapy. The following year, she shaved off her head to deal with the bald spots and shedding. “I loved my hair. It had defined me to a certain extent and provided me with a security blanket of sorts,” she wrote retrospectively in a post from 2021.

After her treatments, Shannen fell into remission in 2017 and shared the news with her Instagram followers, “As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time… I am blessed, I know that. But for now…. remission. I’m going to just breathe,” she wrote.

Sadly, the cancer came back in 2020, and this time in stage IV— the most advanced stage, which in her case, has spread beyond the breast. “I don’t think I’ve processed it. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways,” she told ABC News’ Amy Robach, who is also a breast cancer survivor.

Shannen’s marital issues

Shannen is also going through a recent split from her husband of eleven years, Kurt. The actress alleged that her husband was intimately involved with someone else hence the need for the divorce, as she cited “irreconcilable differences.”

Hours after the news of her divorce, Shannen made a cryptic post on Instagram with the caption, “The only people who deserve to be in your life are the ones who treat you with love, kindness and total respect.”
