The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial was first introduced in 2004, part of Habanos SA Limited Edition series. It then became a current production cigar from 2008. During the 4 first year of production, the Epicure Especial could be in cabinet of 50. There are still some around on the market and cigars from these cabinets have aged so well.

Appearance
The Epicure Especial wears the classic Hoyo de Monterrey band and a second one indicating its name. The cigar I cracked was from one of these 50 cabinet and what a beauty. Dark brown, with a nice oiliness and few veins. This is a real pleasure to the eyes and I cannot wait to crack it.
Tasting
During the first third, the draw was very easy, not much resistance and extremely smooth. Developing a nice and thick smoke. The cigar burnt very evenly keeping it lit without any effort. The aroma was developing a light mocha smell. The flavours were just like the strength of the cigar very light with hints of aged green tea leaves and cardamon.
The second third, surprisingly enough, opened even more the draw. It becomes so smooth, at the edge of being to easy. The density of smoke remained high and very pleasant. The burn continued to be great. This shows how great the cigar was rolled as I have no issue in the construction. The flavours are moving to the nutty side of the palate. The mocha aromas is still present and also appears on the flavours profile. The cigar is still very light, as the brand profile is, so nothing shocking. The finish is into roasted coffee and almonds with this sweetness taking over the palate.
It was a very easy cigar to enjoy. Not to powerful nor complex. Allowing a bit more of an hour of enjoyment. I could enjoy this cigar at any time of the day. I found it more intense than the epicure No.2 and it last a big longer due to its size being bigger. I recommend it to anyone already enjoy the other vitola of Hoyo de Monterrey.
