But I don’t want to go to college! For many parents with teenagers, this is an all too common phrase is to hear. In fact, for many families, having a discussion about College is becoming more a political debate than a friendly conversation. While it can be a huge stepping stone for some students, it’s more of a deterrent for others. In college, students have to compete with each other in order to get good grades, better internships, and the best job offers when graduation finally rolls around. They are constantly being told that they need to have a degree to do anything in life and that name recognition as well as networking connections are the only surefire ways to get ahead in life. But in hindsight, that’s not always a true statement. Not entirely anyway. While many college students do find success after graduation, others fall into tremendous debt and end up falling short of their dreams. So the next time your son or daughter tells you that they don’t want to go to college, consider these ten points.
