7 Mother’s Day Idea’s to Help Sweeten up your Mother’s Day

Here are our top Mothers Day Idea’s for Sunday 9th May the official Mother’s Day in New Zealand – a day to celebrate and honour your mother or the mother figure in your life. The official Mother’s Day holiday arose in the 1900s because of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mother’s 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived Mother’s Day as a way of honouring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.

Here at New Zealand Health Food, we have put together some delicious Mothers day idea’s on how you can sweeten your Mother’s Day this Sunday, because let’s be honest… food is the way to the heart!

1. Try This Simple Healthy Banana Bread Recipe with Mānuka Honey

Everyone loves freshly baked banana bread – especially mum! We have switched things up a little with our Banana Bread Recipe! The bread we made is naturally sweetened by swapping out the sugar and replacing it with our Manuka South Mānuka Honey Blend. We can promise you that no one will be able to tell the difference with this ‘Healthy Banana Bread’. We found the original recipe on ‘food.com‘ and made some yummy healthy changes to make it our own!

2. Deliver a healthy, freshly brewed cuppa tea with added Mānuka Honey instead of sugar

Nothing will make mum smile more than waking her up to a hot cuppa tea!
If you have not tried adding honey to your tea or coffee, you are missing out! Adding honey into your favourite hot drink is not only a natural home remedy, it’s the perfect sweetener with many added health benefits.

Ingredients  

  • 1/4 lemon juice  
  • 2-3 tsp NZHF UMF 5+ Mānuka honey
  • Your chosen herbal tea (chamomile or green tea are personal favourites)  

How to  

  1. Mix the NZHF UMF 5+ Mānuka Honey, and lemon juice in the bottom of your cup while you boil the kettle.  
  2. Add in your chosen herbal tea.  
  3. Once the kettle is boiled, pour over the hot water.  
  4. Add a slice of lemon or a slice of ginger for extra flavour and health benefits.  
  5. Stir and enjoy!  

3. Mānuka Honey on crumpets

While you’re at it, why not add some yummy crumpets to your mum’s morning treat. There is nothing that warms you up more than a nice hot cup of tea + honey on crumpets, or if your crumpet stash is low then make her some pancakes!

– Toast crumpets in toaster for 2 minutes or until lightly browned.
– Drizzle with your favourite honey, we prefer the NZHF Multifloral Mānuka honey
– Serve


4. Healthy Muesli, Fruit + Mānuka Honey Breakfast Bowl

If mum normally has muesli for breakfast, then it might be best to stick to her normal routine, but spice things up a little!

Another Mothers Day Idea is adding some delicious fresh fruit, a drizzle of honey and then… (it doesn’t end there) sprinkle a teaspoon of Bee Pollen Granules on top.

The Only 3 Ingredients You Need:

  • 60ml Gin  
  • 1tsp NZHF Mānuka Honey UMF 10+  
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice  

Let’s get shaking!  

  1. Combine gin and lemon juice in your cocktail shaker, fill with ice  
  2. Microwave the NZHF Mānuka Honey UMF 10+  for 5 seconds (just to soften) then add to shaker  

Shake, shake, shake!  

  • Strain into your martini glass  
  • Enjoy  

6. Sit back, relax and enjoy this simple cheese and Mānuka Honey platter

Everyone loves a cheese platter – so what better way to delight your mum by whipping up a platter for her to enjoy in the sun while sipping on her Honey Martini. Shock mums taste buds by adding some of our sweet and decadent Manuka South Comb Honey.

Dewy and natural glow with this coconut oil and Mānuka Honey Face Mask

What you need:

  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 2 tbsp NZHF UMF 5+ Mānuka Honey

Get Pampering:

  1. In a medium-sized bowel, mix the above ingredients until combined
  2. Once combined, apply to mums face
  3. Let the mask sit for 15-20 minutes
  4. Use a soft washcloth with warm water to clean the mask off and then pat dry

Tighten, glow and exfoliate with this UMF Mānuka Honey and Coffee Face Mask

Manuka Honey and coffee together have been known to naturally tighten and firm your skin

What you need:

  • 1.5 tbsp Instant Coffee
  • 1-3 tbsp NZHF UMF 5+ Mānuka Honey

Get Pampering:

  1. In a medium sized bowel, grind the instant coffee until you get a smooth powder
  2. Add the honey and mix together until all combined
  3. Apply to mums face
  4. Leave for up to 20 minutes
  5. Use a soft washcloth with warm water to clean the mask off and then pat dry

Soften and moisturise skin with this Avocado and UMF Mānuka Honey Face Mask

 What you need:

  • 1 Teaspoon of your favourite Mānuka Honey
  • 1 Teaspoon of coconut oil
  • ½ ripe avocado

Get Pampering:

  1. Mash up the avocado in a bowl until it’s a creamy paste
  2. Add the honey and the coconut oil
  3. Apply mask over mums face
  4. Leave on for 15-20 minutes
  5. Use a soft washcloth with warm water to clean the mask off and then pat dry
