Meditation For Beginners: 10 Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Meditation is the best way to understand your mind. Our endeavours to existence have curbed all our time. Because of this, we fall short of time for ourselves. Meditation is not about becoming a new person or a different person. It is all about becoming aware of ourselves, knowing our thoughts, controlling our breath and inculcating positivity in life.

Beginners will have no idea about how to go with meditation. Many people believe meditation is an activity which can be mastered at will. This notion is completely wrong and does not stand for meditational values. However, we have listed down 10 practical tips for Beginners in meditation. These practical tips will help people enhance their meditation experience.

1. Begin Small

Remember, you are a beginner. It is always better for beginners to start with short durations of meditating. In the beginning, start with 2 minutes. If it goes well, day by day increases your time. Initially, you may find disturbances and unable to concentrate but never give up. If your mind wanders during meditation, realize and come back.

2. Keep A Reminder

It is human tendency to say I will meditate every day and not following the same. An effective way to keep up with regular practice is to make meditation a first priority every day. Keep alarm or a text reminder which you can see every day once you get up. This constantly reminds you and urges you to meditate.

3. No Second Thoughts

Once you decide to meditate, do not give space to second thoughts. Just meditate. Do not go on bragging about where to sit, how to sit, what to think and so on. Sit either on your chair, couch or if you are comfortable, on the ground. It’s just one or two minutes. You will gradually get comfortable.

4. Introspect

After two or three minutes of sitting for meditation, have a quick introspection on how you are feeling, how does your body feel and if you are noticing any change. It gives you an account of your thoughts and body’s reaction.

5. Keep Track Of Your Breathing

Once you are settled, keep track of your breathing. Place the attention on your breath as you inhale and exhale. When you inhale count “one” and when you exhale count “two.” Count until 10 and repeat again.

6. Get Back When You Go Astray

We are all human beings. No one is perfect. If your mind wanders as you meditate, do not worry. Get back and start a fresh. There will be obstructions when you meditate. Do not worry. Just get back when your thoughts go astray.

7. Loving Attitude

You will certainly come across thoughts that are friendly as well as hostile. When the hostile thoughts or thoughts of your enemies arise, do not become angry or hold any negative feeling towards the. Develop a loving attitude. Be calm and regulate your thoughts to be positive.

8. Get To Know Yourself

As mentioned earlier, meditation is the best tool to get to know yourself. Be calm. While you do the breathing, get to know yourself. Recall your strengths and weaknesses. Fill your mind with positivity and be mindful of your actions.

9. Become Friend With Yourself

As you get to know yourself, be more friendly. Do not be negative and critize yourself. Make peace for all the actions you have done. Smile and give yourself love and appreciation.

10. Be Grateful

When you are done with your two minutes, just smile. Be grateful you had a wonderful time for yourself. Do have the satisfaction to yourself. That is an amazing two minutes of your life.
