1. Massage Therapy Using Cotton Bag ( Kizhi )

Kizhi is a type of Ayurveda treatment in which fresh or ground leaves of various herbs are poured into cotton bags, immersed in warm Herbal oil and applied to the whole body or certain parts of the body. The treatment is applied daily for a period of 7-14 days. It is a healing remedy for osteoarthritis, spondylosis, sports accidents and a like.

2. Dhanyamla Dhara

Warm herbal liquids are poured over the body from a special vessel in a certain rhythmic pattern, for about 45-60 minutes daily. This is a good treatment for hemi and tetraplegia.

3. Yoni Prakshalanam

Herbal oils and infusions are introduced into Vagina.This treatment helps alleviate gynecological disorders prevalent in women and has a purifying effect throughout the genital region.

4. Kativasthi

In this treatment, specially prepared warm medicinal oils are applied to the lower back. There, they are contained in a ring of herbal dough and are allowed to act 45-60 minutes.
Kativasthi is a very good treatment for all kinds of back problems and spinal problems.

5. Urovasthi

Like Kativasthi, this is also a process of applying specially prepared warm medicinal oils to the thorax. It is applied for about 45 minutes. This type of treatment deals with asthma and other complaints of respiratory organs, heart disease and pains in the chest region.

6. Ksheeradhoomam

In this treatment, herbal medicines and cow’s milk is mixed, heated and applied as a steam through a tube to the whole body or the affected parts.This treatment has been found to be effective as a treatment for Bell’s palsy, speech impediments, ptosis of the organs and other nervous disorders.

7. Pizhichil

Pizhichil is one of the rare and special treatments in Kerala. The treatment is a process of continuously applying warm herbal oils over the whole body by 2-4 therapists working in synchrony. The treatment takes 60-90 minutes. The duration of this treatment is normally 7-21 days. This is also known as oil bath treatment, is administered in a special massage table carved out of a single piece of wood from a strychnine tree.

This treatment is effective for rheumatic disorders such as arthritis, tetra-or hemiplegia, various forms of paralysis, sexual impairments and nervous dysfunctions.

8. Head Flow (Sirodhara)

“Siro” means head and “Dhara” means continuous flow of liquid. In this treatment herbal oils, milk or buttermilk containing other herbs, are poured on the forehead according to a particular method for 40 minutes per day or a period of 7-21 days. This treatment is known to be a remedy for insomnia, memory loss, head ache, mental tensions and certain skin diseases.

9. Powder Massage (Udvarthanam)

As the name itself denotes, in this treatment, special herbal powers are
applied to the body in a synchronized massage by two therapists for 30-
45 minutes for a period of 14-28 days. It is a good remedy for overweight, hemi- and tetraplegia, skin diseases poor circulation and other kapha disorders.

10. Oral Intake (Snehapanam)

Snehapanam literally means oral intake of medical oils or ghee. The quantity is steadily increased in the course of treatment that usually takes 8-12 days. Snehapanam serves as a medicine and as well as a preparation for self-purification. This treatment is very effective for osteoarthritis, psoriasis, chronic constipation and hemorrhoids etc.
