UP Assembly Election 2017; Over 61% voting in 4th phase

In the fourth phase of Assembly election 2017 of Uttar Pradesh, the total voting percentage was 61 percent. The Polling was held in the 53 assembly constituencies that spread over 12 districts, including the Bundelkhand region.


Despite of the some clashes between the rival groups, the over all polling was held smoothely. The polling was also held in the Rae Bareli, that had represented in the Lok Sabha by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi. For the first time since the 1998, the Gandhi didnot compaign in her constituency.

Other districts where the polling was held amid the tight security were Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Jalaun, Allahabad, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Banda, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur and Fatehpur.

The inter-district and the inter-state borders were sealed to facilitate the peaceful voting and the central paramilitary forces were present in all the polling centres. The total 680 candidates, including 61 women, were in the fray for the 53 seats.

In the 2012 assembly polls, the Samajwadi Party had won the 24, BSP 15, Congress 6, BJP 5 and the others 3 seats. The Allahabad North constituencies have the maximum number of 26 candidates, while Khaga, Manjhanpur and Kunda had six condidates in the fray.

The prominent contestants that included the sitting Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra from Rampur Khas, the daughter of party veteran and the MP Pramod Tiwari, and the independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. The Raja Bhaiya, who is known for his muscle power, is a minister in the Akhilesh Yadav cabinet and is again contesting from his traditional Kunda seat.

Aditi Singh is contesting on Congress ticket in the Rae Bareli, BSP turncoat Swami Prasad Maurya's son Utkarsh Maurya is in the fray from Unchahar seat, while the Leader of Opposition Gaya Charan Dinkar is contesting from the Naraini seat.

The senior SP leader Reoti Raman Singh's son Ujjwal Raman Singh is in the race from the Karchana seat.

The prominent among those who casted their votes today were Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court DB Bhosle, West Bengal Governer Keshri Nath Tripathi, Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya and the party's national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh. He is also the party candidate from the Allahabad west seat.

The remaining 3 phases of assembly polls that will be held on February 27, March 4 and 8. The results will be out on 11th of the March, 2017.
