The world’s original and still largest Hotel built out of snow and ice, the Icehotel has been built every winter in Sweden for 30 years with brand new art to experience each year. Constructed in the village of Jukkasjärvi during November and early December, take a look inside the 30th version of the Icehotel.

Open for just five months, the Icehotel is made with two-ton blocks of ice from the nearby Torne River, only to melt away in the spring. Alongside 20 standard ice rooms, the current hotel includes 15 art suites which feature an array of sculptures from 33 artists, ranging from giant felines to the Santorini coast.

One such room by British sculptor Robert Harding has been created to feel like ‘A Night at the Theatre’ with ice-carved curtains, reindeers waiting in the wings, a scale model of the hotel entrance and six life-size ice seats for guests to sit on. The IceBar’s ‘Welcome to TorneLand’ theme also comes with ice-carved roller-coasters, Ferris wheels, carnival games and hot air balloons.

As it stays a cool -5 degrees Celsius inside, guests are kitted out with warm outer clothing and Arctic sleeping bags for their beds. Warm accommodations are also available, as is an ice chapel should you wish to get hitched among the ice with 35-40 of nearest and dearest.
