Samsung has officially unveiled One UI 6 at the Samsung Developer Conference held on October 5. At the event, Samsung talked about One UI 6 and some of its features. But in the press release, Samsung revealed all the features of One UI 6, which means you can now know what to expect from the One UI 6 update.

Here I will share everything related to One UI 6 including its release date, supported devices, features and more. Google has already released stable Android 14 for Pixel, which means other OEMs will also soon launch stable builds of their own Android 14 based custom skin like One UI 6.

Let’s begin with the Release Date.

One UI 6 Release Date

Stable One UI 6 is expected to be released by the end of October or early November. The Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra are going to be the first to get the update. And by this year most of the flagship phones and latest mid range phones will get the official One UI 6 update. The remaining devices may get it by the end of the first quarter of 2024.

Samsung started testing One UI 6 beta in the last week of August. It was the Galaxy S23 series that was the first to receive the One UI 6 beta, but later the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy A54, Galaxy A34, and Galaxy A53 also joined the beta. Galaxy foldables are expected to get One UI 6 beta this month.

There is no official confirmation yet as to when stable One UI 6 will be released. But a stable version has been claimed to have been spotted recently, which means that October could be the month when Samsung will start releasing Android 14 based stable One UI 6.

One UI 6 Features

The main reason to be excited for One UI 6 or any other update for that matter, is the new set of features, improvements over last update, and bug fixes. And One UI 6 won’t be considered a major upgrade if it doesn’t bring major changes. So yes the One UI 6 comes with some new features including UI improvements.

As Samsung has now officially unveiled the One UI 6, the complete list of new features are available. The features listed below are confirmed. The One UI 6 is based on Android 14 which means it will have some common features of Android 14.

Revamped Quick Panel

The main big change on One UI 6 is the redesigned Quick Settings layout. Quick Settings on One UI 6 now follows the stock Android path. Some options are bigger that are easily accessible and so makes the interaction easy with the phone.

The Quick Panel uses the full screen unlike One UI 5 in which the settings are displayed in the lower part of the screen. So in the new layout, one hand operation might not be easy.

In One UI 6 users can enable Instant Quick settings access, which let you access quick settings in one swipe down gestures while in One UI 5 two swipe down gestures are required.

Move Clock Freely on Lock Screen

In One UI 5, we can only set the Clock widget in select locations, but in One UI 6 we can reposition clock to the location of our choice. It is going to helpful if you want the widget to match wallpaper by not covering important part of the wallpaper, and you can set it where the clock is clearly visible.

Changes for Better Homescreen

Samsung has removed the Galaxy or Samsung name from some of its stock apps to keep apps name shorter for cleaner and simpler look. One UI 6 let you drag app icons with one hand while using second hand for switching homescreen page. You can also set navigation gestures to auto hide just like auto hide taskbar on Windows PC.

New Default Font

The One UI 6 has a different default font than One UI 5. The new font is cleaner, more stylish and gives modern feel. Fonts are bit wider that makes them easy to read.

Link to Windows on Tablets

The Links to Windows feature comes to Samsung Galaxy Tablets with One UI 6. It let you stay connected to your Tablet task directly from your PC without the need of reaching for the tablet.

Redesigned Emojis

One UI 6 brings some redesigned emojis and some new emojis. The new emojis looks better than previous set of emojis. But many users don’t care about emojis, if you do, then this is one of the useful changes for you.

New Media Player

Another big change that comes with the One UI 6 is the new Media Player in the Notification panel and lock screen. Samsung finally adopts the stock Android 13 like Media Player design but with better improvements.

Last year Samsung didn’t bring the Android 13 AOSP style media player but finally brought the new design with Android 14 based One UI 6. The changes include the media player covered with song cover art and animated progress bar.

Separate Battery Settings

Battery Settings is now a standalone Settings in One UI 6. Earlier it was available in Settings along with Device care. But now you can directly open Battery settings to see battery information directly from Settings. Here’s how the new Battery Settings UI.

Enhanced Camera Features

The Camera app comes with an improved UI for easier controls. For example you will be able to easily changes the camera megapixel, Super steady shortcut in video mode, new video resolution shortcut UI.

In the Settings, you will be able to choose the type of quality you want to capture from your phone. You can set the maximum if you are ok with taking more time on optimization which you notice after tapping the shutter button. When you select minimum you can take photos more quickly without waiting for optimization. There is also a Medium option if you want to maintain balance between Quality and shutter lag.

In One UI 6 users can add camera widgets to homescreen that will let you open a dedicate camera page like you can directly open with custom settings applied.

It let you choose whether you want the watermark on the bottom of the picture or at the top. Now you can also turn off swiping up and down within camera to open switch between front and rear camera.

Gallery Improvements

When you open the detailed view of the picture by swiping up in the picture, you will have edit options there, like Object eraser, remaster, and portrait effect for quick editing.

In One UI 6 users can two hands for drag and drop. Using first hand drag and drop any object or media file and with the other hand you can open app where you want to share the media or object.

More Editing Tools

Image editing is now simpler with new tools layout. The options now appear side wise in place of stack view. In transform menu, Straighten and Perspective options have been combined.

Even after saving your edit you will be able to make changes to drawings, stickers and text.

Samsung Studio

A new feature dedicated for editing. The Studio will let you do more complex and powerful editing directly on your phone. You can access it from Drawer menu in the Gallery app, or you can also add it as a shortcut in the home screen to launch it quickly.
