WHAT’S IN MY BAG (BACK-TO-SCHOOL EDITION)

Since getting back into the swing of things at grad School, I have basically been living out of my backpack during the day. I’m definitely out of practice with organizing what is an absolute necessity to bring with you for during the day at school and what can be left at home. I am getting better but I’m realizing what sort of odd ball things I need when I am there from 8 to 5 or later.

Keep in mind that my commute is about an hour so I really can not be running back and forth from my home to school if I happen to forget something or am not fully stocked. Hence, the overloaded backpack.

Although I do have loads of textbooks for my classes, they are boring and to be expected of any college experience so you can pretend there are also textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, and any other of the usual suspects for back to school crammed into this backpack.

ELECTRONICS

Ipad
Laptop
Headphones
chargers
portable charger
camera

Since I do have such a long day, I can not afford to have anything die on me. So I have an entire pocket dedicated to chargers for every electronic. I even have a portable charger. I have been using these ones for years and it’s definitely on my list of must haves. A lot of time I am moving around class or the school and can’t have my phone sitting in a corner for a long period of time while it charges. Simply plug in your device and it can sit right in your backpack as you go about your day.

Also since a lot of the notes for my classes are digital files sent to us, it was highly recommended for us to have a portable touch screen device so we would be able to make notes directly on the files as well as drawing diagrams which a normal computer would not be able to do. I deleted most of my fun apps on here to help me focus but some of my favorite school related apps to have are Evernote, TED talks, and Quizlet.

FUEL

Water bottle
snack bars
aloha green protein
Lunch

With a lot of my classes including such different material from what I am used to, I never know when I am going to need to stay longer at the school to talk to a professor, go to a meeting, or work on some research. It doesn’t matter which, but if I am not able to eat something at a moment’s notice while walking to something, there are plenty of times I would go hungry. For lunch I use a Bentology lunch box because it keeps everything separate. Plus, if I need to I can just grab out one of the small containers for a snack instead of the full meal. On top of that, I keep a lot of snack bars on hand. Right now my favorites are D’s Naturals, That’s It fruit bars, Pegan protein bars, and Amazing Grass Superfood bars.

I also use a glass water bottle that I refill throughout the day. I constantly break water bottles whether they are plastic or glass or tin. I have serious skills. So I usually buy glass bottles in the packs of four at the grocery store so that if I break one, I am not breaking a 40+ dollar bottle and I have another one already for me to use.

WILD CARDS & DAILY

hair tie, kleenexs, pain relief, band aids, lipstick

sunglasses
lip stick
make up whips
essential oil
socks
Deodorant

All in all a lot of my daily things are quite boring and to be expected in a backpack. Hair ties, tissues, pain killers, band aids, you know the drill.

Often times at the end of the day I will go to the gym at I don’t like to workout with face or lip make up on. It’s just this weird thing of mine. And even if don’t workout, it is so nice to take all of your makeup off before a long drive home through traffic. It just makes you feel a little bit fresher and more alive.

Now I know most of you probably picked up on my fluffy socks and are confused. Sometimes I end up staying late because of traffic or just need to cram. But instead of staying in whatever shoes I am wearing that day, I switch over to these bad boys. It may seem a little too relaxed for some of you but when you are pushing 12 hours in one building, every judgment people have flies out the window and no one bats an eye.

Probably my most important thing in this chunk are my essential oils. I keep several oils that are perfect for school including a focus blend for when I’m studying or before a test and my headache blend which has been my faithful companion and saved me many a times.
