Sunnundalu – Urad Dal Laddu Recipe

Food is something which connects everybody. It is not just a necessity but our emotions are get attached to it too. I just tried Urad Dal ladoo today at home and had to share the recipe and experience with you all. I tasted it for the first time in my friend’s house and got curious about it.

Food is the way to my heart too. If you cook for me, I’m your best friend! There are memories with food which I always bring up a smile on my face. Food cooked with love and shared definitely brings more joy.

Sunni vunda or Sunnundalu is a delicacy which is very famous in Andhra Pradesh. I got the recipe from an aunt who lives in Andhra Pradesh and she vouched that they even give to the children as it is so healthy. So, you can enjoy them without much guilt as they are made with jaggery. It is easy to prepare and you can even add some dry fruits to make it even more healthier. Our Indian desserts are protein rich and you can easily add them in your diet. I hope you will try these Andhra style Minapu Sunnundalu and share the feedback with me.

Sunnundalu – Urad Dal Ladoo

  • 1 cup Urad Dal/white lentil
  • 3/4 cup Jaggery
  • 1 tbsp Raw Rice
  • 1/2 cup Ghee
  • 2 Cardamom
  1. Roast the Urad dal and rice in a pan on low flame for few minutes. Keep stirring till the lentils turn brown color and it will start leaving a nice aroma. Transfer in a plate and let it cool down.

  2. Add roasted urad dal and cardamom in your food processor and grind it to a coarse powder.

  3. Powder jaggery and add it in a pan. Add the powdered urad dal in the pan and mix well.

  4. Now heat ghee. Slowly add it in the pan and mix well.

  5. When its warm itself start making small balls of the mix and keep it aside.

  6. Once it completely cools down, store it in an air-tight container. You can store it upto 2 weeks in a cool place.

  • Do not worry if the mix completely cools down and you are not able to make balls. Heat the pan again with the mix and stir for 2 minutes on low flame. Remove from the flame and start making balls again.
  • Adding rice is optional. It adds a nice crunch to the ladoos.
  • You can also roast some cashews and almonds and add to it.
  • You can adjust sweetness according to your taste.
