From the Indonesian islands to Singapore’s skyscrapers, these are the hottest new Asian hotels to bookmark for your next vacation.
1. Ta’aktana – Labuan Bajo, Indonesia
Ta’aktana, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Labuan Bajo will open in late March on the western side of Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara Province. The hotel, which consists of overwater villas, will serve as a good location for exploring the Komodo National Park, which is known for its indigenous Komodo dragons and is located on a nearby island.
Janu Tokyo, from the renowned Aman brand, will open in Japan in March 2024 in the newly created Azabudai Hills neighborhood, which includes Japan’s tallest structure. This new hotspot will have 122 accommodations, eight dining options, and a wellness center spanning over 40,000 square feet.

3. Kimpton Hong Kong – Hong Kong
The Kimpton Hong Kong will open in Hong Kong in July 2024. This new hotel, with 492 rooms spread across 42 floors and a rooftop infinity pool, will boast views of Victoria Harbour and a sleek, elegant design.

4. Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi – Hanoi, Vietnam
The 123-year-old Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is hardly a new hotel, but it recently reopened its historic Heritage Wing following a 21-month makeover. The newly disclosed Metropole Heritage Wing has 103 refurbished rooms with old-world decor that reflects the hotel’s history.

5. The Singapore Edition – Singapore
The Singapore Edition, located on the west end of Singapore’s famous Orchard Road, opened in November 2023 as the Edition brand’s first Southeast Asian hotel, with 204 rooms. The brand recently debuted a new property in Japan, The Tokyo Edition Ginza, which is now in the soft-opening stage.

6. Shangri-La Phnom Penh – Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Shangri-La Phnom Penh will open at the end of 2024 in Cambodia’s capital, with 303 rooms, five dining options, a spa, and stunning views of the Mekong River. Shang Palace, a restaurant by Chef Freeze Ng Kok Leon of Shangri-La’s Hotel in Shandong Qufu, China, will be one of the venues.

7. Umana Bali – Bali, Indonesia
Umana Bali, LXR Hotels & Resorts launched in Bali, Indonesia in January 2024, offering cliff-top views and direct access to Melasti Beach on the island’s southernmost tip, Ungasan. Each of the 72 villas has its own private infinity pool and hot tub.

8. Six Senses Kyoto – Kyoto, Japan
Six Senses Kyoto, with 81 rooms, will open in Higashiyama, Japan, in April 2024. This stylish and minimalist new hotel will be conveniently located near the Myoho-in Temple, the Toyokuni-Jinja Shrine, and the famed Gion neighborhood.

9. Gran Meliá Nha Trang – Nha Trang, Vietnam
Gran Melia Nha Trang, which opened in late December 2023, contains 94 villas and three restaurants (one serving native Vietnamese fare, the others serving Japanese and Spanish cuisines). The new hotel is located on a private bay in Nha Trang, overlooking the lush green Cô Tiên Mountain.

10. The Tokyo Edition Ginza, Japan
Three years after its maiden entry into Japan with The Tokyo Edition Toranomon, Edition Hotels’ second property in the city, The Tokyo Edition Ginza, will officially open in early 2024. Ian Schrager, the notable hotelier and founder of New York’s iconic Studio 54, collaborated with Marriott International to create the facility, which once again reflects the vision of prominent Japanese architect and designer Kengo Kuma, who also constructed the hotel group’s Toranomon property.
Kuma’s characteristic nature-inspired architectural elements can be found throughout the hotel, including vertical gardens that drape over the 14-story tower and soothing tones of walnut timber, cream-colored leather, and green marble in the interiors.

11. Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto, Japan
The modest 52-room Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto, located in the Gion and Higashiyama districts, offers the impression of being a quiet and secluded hotel, even though it is in the heart of the city—the resort stands adjacent to the Kiyomizu-Dera Temple, right opposite Kyoto’s iconic bamboo forest. It is located on a hill and offers breathtaking views of Kyoto City.
History also plays a significant influence here. The hotel will be the first and only one in Kyoto City to feature a dedicated Noh stage—Noh is a significant style of ancient Japanese dance-drama that dates back to the 14th century. Banyan Tree also took considerable measures to maintain the site’s original form, designing a compact building that safeguards the area’s historic trees.

12. Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia
The latest resort from Banyan Tree’s Garrya brand, which focuses on design-led hotels in emerging destinations, is situated on the banks of the Denggung River in Gabugan Village, Yogyakarta’s Sleman Region. Drawing influence from Javanese design, Arte Architect and Associates created pyramid-like structures in an inner courtyard and a lobby in the joglo style (seen in traditional Javanese dwellings) using repurposed wood.
Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta will have 24 villas, including two-bedroom villas with individual plunge pools and the flagship Wellbeing Sanctuary Villa. The four-room 8lements Spa provides health therapies based on Asian methods, as well as activities like poolside yoga on the riverside balcony. Its culinary offerings include traditional Javanese cuisine prepared with locally obtained ingredients.

13. Aman Nai Lert Bangkok, Thailand
First it was Tokyo, then New York, and now Aman will debut its newest city property, Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. The hotel was designed by experienced Aman designer Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, who was inspired by the rich tapestry of influences at the neighboring Nai Lert Park Heritage Home, as well as Aman’s hallmark aesthetic of refined elegance and intentional restraint.
Located in the city’s historic Nai Lert Park, the hotel rises out of the beautiful gardens and contains 52 suites, 33 Aman Residences, an exclusive private members’ Aman Club—which had its successful premiere at Aman New York—and an infinity pool overlooking Bangkok’s cityscape.

14. Soneva Secret, Maldives
After 30 years of planning, Soneva, a leader in meaningful luxury and sustainability, will finally unveil the much-awaited Soneva Secret on Haa Dhaalu Atoll, the Maldives’ most secluded set of islands.
The resort will only have 14 private villas, all with direct access to exquisite white sand beaches and pure blue waters. For those who truly wish to go off the grid, these villas comprise a limited number of lagoon Crusoe Villas accessible only by boat, as well as the Castaway, Maldives’ first floating property.

When it comes to the Oberois, we know what to expect: dramatic features and unashamed extravagance. The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace, a 200-year-old palace surrounded by sal woodland near India’s Panna National Park, will be restored into a stunning luxury hotel.
The palace, located on 60 hectares on the foothills of the Managad hills in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatrapur region, will have 66 sumptuous apartments and an infinity pool overlooking the property’s private lake.

17. Sea Sea, Crescent Head, Australia
Crescent Head is a peaceful, sun-kissed surf hamlet on the Tasman Sea coast, midway between Sydney and Byron Bay. George Gorrow and his wife, Cisco Tschurtschenthaler, will open Sea Sea, a “Seventies surf-inspired boutique hotel” with just 24 rooms, entrenched in the area’s original scenery and just a few blocks away from what Gorrow claims is one of “Australia’s best surf spots”.
The hotelier pair, whose first resort is The Slow in Bali, urged local talent to transform Sea Sea into a cultural center. There will be an in-house radio station produced by independent channel Reverberation, as well as food and drink from Sydney’s renowned P&V Wine & Liquor Merchants and Antonello Arzedi, who has previously worked at Sydney’s legendary Icebergs Dining Room and Bar.
