Cheti Chand is the name of the festival celebrate on the day that both Guru Nanak and Varun Devta (the water god) Sai Uderolal or Jhulelal were born. A day even during Chet month’s waxing moon is set aside to celebrate this widely attended Sindhi holiday. Legend has it that Varun Dev, in the guise of Uderolal, saved the Sindhis from a tyrannical ruler who sought to eradicate Hinduism and Sindhi culture on the first day of the Chet month.

The main celebration kicks off with a ritual honoring the deities Jhulelal and Bahrano. Chej, a traditional Sindhi dance, performed to music honoring the god Jhulelal by men. This festival celebrated with great fanfare by all Sindhi-focused groups and institutions. Jhulelal Saint, the Sindhi sea god, worshiped with an aarti.
