Tom Ford Beau de Jour EDP was released in 2020 and is based on fresh spices, subtle woods, and lavender. It lasts 10 – 12 hours on the skin with above-average projection. In this review, I will describe its smell and performance and if it’s worth it.

What Does Tom Ford Beau de Jour EDP Smell Like?

It’s known as being a fougere. If you are familiar, this means fern-like, usually airy and aromatic.

A hefty dose of lavender leads the opening with a degree of brightness. It is undoubtedly prominent but not overpowering; I find it quite soothing. Rather than leave a scent trail off you, it envelops you with a calming, masculine cloud.

After a while, Beau de Jour EDP adds mint and geranium. Both come across as fresh and slightly spicy. Together the pair have a subtle herbaceous quality that works perfectly with lavender.

The top notes mix and mingle until the lavender loses strength. Green basil fills the void. Amplifying the already subtle herbal qualities and fresh spice. At this point, all notes are equally split, each accounting for 25% of the smell. The notes are in equal parts, yet freshness is emphasized.

Lavender moves further in the background as the scent dries down. While this happens, a patchouli and amber backbone is building in its place. They give the lingering green, earthy spices a decent structure to project off for the rest of the wear.

Performance

The performance can win you over by itself. Beau de Jour EDP lasts 10 – 12 hours on the skin with above-average projection. During the first few hours of the wear, it pushes out four feet before receding. This isn’t a room filler, but close. After this period, it retains a decent size scent bubble, never becoming a skin scent.

The versatility is just as good; it’s an all-season and occasion wear. In the winter, it weakens, so you’ll have to apply a few more sprays. The aroma is sophisticated enough for formal occasions but also pleasant and dressed down enough for office or lecture hall wear.

Lastly, the mass appeal and complimentability. As a barbershop fragrance, it has decent mass appeal. There is nothing about the greens and aromatics that turn many off. As for compliments, it receives them, but it’s not an attention magnet.

On their official website, Beau de Jour EDP costs $225 for a 100mL bottle. For a Tom Ford fragrance, this is one of their more affordable.

I enjoy Beau de Jour EDP as it’s an easy grab-and-go and never gets too complicated. It also has a bold and masculine nature, which I appreciate in a men’s fragrance. My only minor downfall is that, as a guy in his 20s, it can come off as a bit old-school/mature.

The real question is it worth it? Yes, it’s very versatile and smells fantastic. Think twice if you’re exclusively into youthful fragrances, but even then, it’s not an ultra-decisive scent.
